    Field Director Position in Montana - Full time Permanent


    Full time Permanent Field Director/ Stationed in Billings, Montana/ Fieldwork will occur primarily in Montana, the Dakotas and Wyoming/ salary will range between $50,000 and $60,000 based on experience.

    Ethnoscience, Inc. has an immediate opening for a Project Archaeologist/Field Director.

    The individual be stationed in Billings, Montana but can expect to spend over 50% of their time in the field (this will vary by season).

    The individual will work on project tasks that include conducting or supervising fieldwork (survey, testing and NRHP evaluation, data recovery, monitoring), interacting with individuals of diverse cultural and world views, archival research, and technical writing.


    Requirements:

    • A master's degree in archaeology or a closely related field.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • The ability to be flexible, prioritize work, and identify possible solutions when unexpected challenges arise.
    • Experience in both fieldwork and laboratory analysis of pre-contact artifacts and features.
    • Experience in the Northern Plains is preferred, especially in identifying and documenting stone features.
    • The ability to treat all people with respect, including those of different cultures and viewpoints.
    • The ability to work alone or supervise field technicians as needed.
    Ethnoscience Inc., is a small, woman-owned cultural resource management company that has been in business since 1982.

    Over the years, Ethnoscience has worked on a wide range of sites, such as Paleoindian campsites, rock art sites, battlefields, plains villages, fur trade forts, military silos, and farmsteads.

    Although the majority of projects are located in the northern plains, we have also conducted studies in the Rocky Mountains and high desert environments.

    We also work with Northern Plains tribal specialists on a variety of projects.
