    Category Manager, Automotive Tires

    Location: In office role, Cape Girardeau, MO

    Compensation: $95k - $120k base plus 15% bonus

    Reports to: Director of Merchandising

    Background Required: 5-10 years of tire category management in a large national retail organization

    Job Scope

    The Category Manager, Tires is responsible for installing and maintaining a tire product strategy across Sun Auto Tire & Services nationwide footprint. This role will lead the implementation, improvement, and maintenance of Sun Autos tire category strategy to increase profitability, simplify the sales process, and improve the customer experience through a combination of market/sales analysis, product assortment planning, pricing, and merchandising.

    Responsibilities include (other duties may be assigned as needed):

    • Work with the Director, merchandising to continuously develop, implement, and maintain a category strategy for products and services including but not limited to; passenger tires, light truck tires, ST radial tires, with a lesser emphasis on medium truck tires and industrial/agricultural products.
    • Learn, execute, and improve the companys tire product strategy and sales process to improve salability, profitability, competitiveness in the marketplace, and simplicity.
    • Compile and analyze market data, sales data, and supplier data from multiple sources to achieve the above goals and support the developed strategy.
    • Capitalize on opportunities and recognize market trends within the tires category to maximize retail performance, identify gaps in the assortment, and improve internal service level.
    • Identify and utilize supplier fulfillment, third-party logistics providers, and the companys internal distribution system to efficiently support retail operations.
    • Work with the relevant departments to:
    • Validate, manage, and maintain SKU data including new item creation, product end-of-life planning, pricing, and stocking levels.
    • Ensure alignment between pricing, assortment, and advertising strategies.
    • Support company inventory and procurement goals and strategies.

    Core Competencies:

    The following core competencies will be required:

    • Intimate knowledge of the various products/services in the tire category including the functions, uses, and how they relate to one another.
    • Deep understanding of the tire industry including but not limited to product tiers, tread designs, tire types, internal construction of a tire, common sales strategies, and tire-related service packages.
    • Flexibility and sense of urgency to remain effective in a rapidly changing and fast-growing corporate landscape.
    • Organizational and leadership skills that facilitate coordination/teamwork with various departments, stakeholders, and individuals.
    • Understanding of the current automotive service aftermarket and retail landscape.
    • Ability to explain, present, and otherwise concisely communicate with key stakeholders to foster buy-in and understanding via in-person presentations, online meetings, and email.

    Qualifications:

    • Undergraduate degree in business preferred.
    • Minimum 5-10 years in the tire product category management and automotive aftermarket with an emphasis on the retail tire business.
    • Intimate understanding of the automotive aftermarket and tire-specific industry.
    • Experience with tire retail, retail automotive service, and/or automotive aftermarket.
    • Advanced ability in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Excel.
