    Position Overview

    Assists with the maintenance and repair of all AHS facility's plumbing, heating, cooling and electrical systems. Keeps premises safe and comfortable for the animals, the public and employees. Assists internal AHS departments in scheduling regular maintenance appointments and will help coordinate emergency repairs if any of the vehicles encounter problems on the road. Communicates with vendors, contractors and suppliers. Conducts preventative facilities maintenance for all AHS properties. May be asked to come in after hours to assist with emergencies.


    Essential Functions

    • Continually monitor entire campus for needed replacement, maintenance, preventative maintenance or repair.
    • Process requests for repair, maintenance or small construction projects for all departments.
    • Design and build shelving, stands, tables and other items as needed or requested by departments.
    • Clean and clear drains, sinks, toilets and unplug pipes.
    • Ensure plumbing fixtures are functioning properly.
    • Pick up materials and supplies as needed for various construction and/or repair projects.
    • Represent AHS with public, vendors and suppliers in acquisition of materials and supplies.
    • Pick up donated items that can be used for building or facility improvements and provide appropriate acknowledgment to donors.
    • Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol.
    • Coordinate emergency repairs if any of the vehicles encounter problems on the road.
    • Coordinate transportation needs and provide transportation as needed for departments when picking up or dropping off vehicles.
    • Maintain a fleet inventory spreadsheet of all vehicles owned by the company.
    • Work with the accounting team to ensure that all company vehicles are insured and oversee and maintain all AZDOT vehicle registration and emissions testing.
    • Utilize the Enterprise Fleet Management dashboard as a tool in overseeing and maintaining our vehicle fleet.
    • Be available for general assistance for all departments.
    • The Maintenance Technician position is required to drive an AHS vehicle and is designated as safety sensitive.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.


    Education / Certifications / Licenses:

    • High school diploma/GED
    • Must be 21 years old
    • Valid driver's license
    • Acceptable driving record and ability to pass driving, drug and background screening to be insured as an AHS driver

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2yrs in building maintenance or repair role.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

    Language - Able to speak, read, write and understand English. Spanish language helpful.

    Mathematical - Basic

    Technical - Comprehensive knowledge of construction, plumbing, electrical wiring and HVAC (certification not required). General working knowledge of automotive maintenance.


    Other Skills, Abilities and Qualifications:

    • Candidate must have the ability to multi-task and be flexible to pivot as needed.
    • Able to work well with minimal supervision, prioritize work order requests and follow procedures.
    • Possess great time management skills.
    • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Must be able to make decisions and be accountable.
    • Regular attendance and punctuality required.
    • The Maintenance Technician position is required to drive AHS vehicles and is designated as safety sensitive; misdemeanor and felony charges and/ or convictions, inability to pass driving background, or failure to pass drug or background screening may disqualify candidates from the position.

    Work Environment / Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, have dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Must be able to walk and be on feet the majority of the day. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.     There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes; occasional wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Time is divided between typical air conditioned and heated office environments and the outdoors.
