    General Description

    Volunteers will coach youth participating in the City's football and cheerleading programs while promoting sportsmanship, teamwork and responsibility. Volunteers will also ensure participating youth are in compliance with the rules and regulations set forth by the City of Miami Gardens.

    Essential Job Functions
    • Teach American football and cheerleading to participants.
    • Promote physical exercise through play.
    • Encourage skill development, fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship.
    • Examine fields prior to each game to report hazardous conditions.
    • Report violations of City of Miami Gardens Youth Football and Cheerleading Program policies and procedures.
    • Safeguard program participants.
    Minimum Qualifications

    MANDATORY requirements for volunteers:
    • MUST PASS A LEVEL II BACKGROUND CHECK (Annually; Fingerprint Cost - $33.00)
    • MUST BE USA FOOTBALL HEADS UP CERTIFIED (All Football Coaches)
    • MUST COMPLETE LEAGUE COACHES CERTIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS*

      * Proof of current Florida Youth Football League (FYFL) stunt certification (Cheer)
      * Proof of educational certification (Football)
      * Jr. Coaches must provide current final report card (Football/Cheer)
    Supplemental Information

    COACHESCODE OF CONDUCT

    All volunteer coaches must act in accordance with the City of Miami Gardens Youth Football and Cheerleading Program Code of Conduct, which includes the following provisions:

    Volunteers
    • I will demand a sports environment that is free from drugs, gambling and alcohol.
    • I will not smoke and/or use smokeless tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs while on or near the field of practice and/or during game play.
    • I will encourage good sportsmanship and team play.
    • I will prioritize the emotional and physical well-being of my participants.
    • I will be knowledgeable of the rules pertaining to the sport that I am responsible for coaching.
    • I will treat participants fairly.
    • I will emphasize to all players that education takes priority over a sport.
    • I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with officials, coaches, players or parents such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, using profane language or participating in gambling.
    • I will uphold the rules and regulations of the City of Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation Department and the league.
    • I will make sure that participants have FUN
