    The Department of Internal Medicine, Divisions of Nephrology, VirginiaCommonwealth University is seeking a Nephrologist/Critical Care Physician for ourInternal Medicine Services in Richmond, Virginia to contributeto and enhance the educational and clinical activities of the divisions ofNephrology and Critical Care Medicine by providing compassionate, efficient,high quality consultative patient care in outpatient and inpatient settings andsupport the research goals of the divisions and department.


    Position Responsibilities:

    Teaching | Teach fellows, residents and medical students using adult teaching methods that enhance and encourage active learning and ongoing professional development.

    Faculty are expected to learn about and apply contemporary adult learning methods to promote evidence-based practice and demonstrate effective teaching skills and continually develop as a teacher for learners at all levels.

    In addition, faculty may participate in other learning activities such as Foundations of Clinical Medicine, resident didactic series, Grand Rounds, morning report, noon conference, and other formal educational programs for undergraduate and post-graduate learners.

    Research | Faculty have opportunitiesto participate in clinical and administrative research, according to skills,interest, and funding. Research opportunities may include performanceimprovement initiatives or formal extramurally funded investigations. participationmay be as principal investigator or co-investigator. In order to advance inrank, faculty are expected to develop an area of expertise and achieverecognition of this expertise.

    Service | Faculty are expected to work with institutional staff andadministration to attain the strategic objectives of VCU Health System,including patient safety, patient satisfaction, maintenance and enhancement of public perception, andfiscal health.

    Faculty have numerous opportunities to engage in committee workand lead health system efforts to enhance quality.

    Clinical | Faculty will be working with the Divisions ofNephrology and Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine as an Attending Physician onrotations that include: inpatient nephrology consults with a focus on patientswith liver disease; inpatient and outpatient dialysis; and inpatient criticalcare rotations at the main campus in VCU Downtown.

    Other | Facultyshould comply in a timely manner with all institutional policies forprofessional work including credentialing, documentation, billing and workeffectively with other members of the extended interprofessional team.


    Required Qualifications:
    Board certification or eligibility in Internal Medicineand Nephrology and completion of accredited fellowship in General NephrologyDirectexperience managing complex inpatients and outpatients, and an interest inacademic work including teaching, professional development, and qualityimprovementDemonstrated ability to work as a member of a team and effectivelycommunicate in both verbal and written formatsDemonstrated experience workingin and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment orcommitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
