Quality Lead (QMS)Southern California (San Diego) — Full-Time | W-2 or 1099
Colabmo is seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Lead to support a Southern California-based organization in achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification and building a high-performing Quality Management System (QMS).
This role may begin as part-time and transition to full-time. Engagement structure may be W-2 employee or 1099 independent contractor, depending on candidate preference and qualifications.Position Overview
The Quality Lead will drive the development, implementation, and operational integration of an ISO 9001:2015-compliant QMS. This includes daily quality operations, hands-on inspection activities, documentation control, KPI development, internal auditing, and audit readiness.
This is not a purely advisory role. The selected candidate will actively build, implement, and operate the system.
Key ResponsibilitiesISO 9001 Certification & QMS Development
Lead the organization through ISO 9001:2015 certification readiness.
Establish and document QMS processes in alignment with ISO clauses 4–10.
Define scope, interested parties, and risk-based thinking framework.
Develop documented information, procedures, and records.
Implement internal audit programs and management review processes.
Support external audit preparation and corrective action closure.
Daily Quality Operations
Perform hands-on inspection of products and processes.
Develop and implement monitoring and measurement controls.
Establish traceability and control of nonconforming outputs.
Maintain document control systems.
Support calibration and measurement traceability programs.
Lead corrective and preventive action initiatives.
Process Controls & KPIs
Define process metrics and performance indicators.
Develop dashboards and operational KPIs.
Support risk-based process evaluation and improvement.
Lead root cause investigations and data-driven improvement initiatives.
Establish continuous improvement structure using PDCA principles.
Cross-Functional Leadership
Train employees on QMS requirements and awareness.
Support leadership in integrating quality into daily operations.
Facilitate internal audits and report findings to management.
Act as internal quality subject matter expert.
Qualifications
3–7+ years of hands-on Quality Management experience.
Demonstrated experience implementing or maintaining ISO 9001:2015 systems.
Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, medical device, or technology environments preferred.
Strong understanding of:
Risk-based thinking
Documented information control
Internal auditing
Corrective action systems
KPI development and data analysis
Certifications (Preferred)
ASQ Certified Quality Auditor (CQA)
ASQ Certified Manager of Quality (CMQ/OE)
ASQ Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) or Black Belt (CSSBB)
Other relevant ASQ certifications desirable
Skills & Attributes
Strong hands-on, operational mindset
Comfortable working on the floor and in documentation systems
Clear written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently
Structured thinker with strong analytical capability
Professional, client-facing demeanor

Location:
Southern California (primarily San Diego)

Travel may be required within Southern California
NDA required with Colabmo and potentially with client
Compensation commensurate with experience
