    Description

    Summary



    The Electronic Controls Mechanic Leader works on new installations, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, major modifications and calibration of highly complex electronic controls and indicating and recording systems used within infrastructure, equipment, machinery, engines, and motors, in a hospital setting using energy monitoring and control systems. This position is located in the Controls Shop section of Facilities Management Service at the Syracuse VA Medical Center.



    Duties


    Operates/Maintains/Repairs Computer Based Building Automation System

    • Primary responsibility for the Medical Center's pneumatic and electric/electronic/control monitoring and HVAC control systems and preventative maintenance programs.
    • Demonstrates expertise and extensive knowledge of the Johnson Controls Metasys Building Automation System, programs control software, and modifies and makes changes to graphics.
    • The mechanic troubleshoots, repairs, modifies and relocates equipment to provide the specific climate controls for laboratories, patient rooms, surgical areas and operating rooms that require special humidity and temperature controls to meet extensive VA specifications.
    • Diagnoses and repairs complex electronic control system malfunctions. He/she provides sketches of field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings.
    • Consults with manufacturing technical representatives and considers their recommendations on special applications.
    • Sets up schedules to inspect control systems and uses own judgment to adjust, repair or replace component parts of the systems.
    • Calibrates individual control components and adjusts components in the proper sequence of operation to achieve a desired control application.
    • Verifies component device output at the unit for receipt of proper transmitter inputs and verifies proper signal to the main control center (Johnson Controls ADX Main Server) and two EA browser stations.
    • Schedules resetting of hot and cold water temperatures, cycling of water chillers, valve arrangements, pumps and air handling systems according to peak load demands in the interest of energy conservation.
    • Installs, programs and troubleshoots network automation engines, network control engines, xtm's and iom's program the advance graphics application and imports and converts graphics to the user interface.
    • Programs and installs analog indicators, analog inputs, analog outputs, binary inputs, binary outputs and unitary controllers on field equipment such as fans, coils, pumps, hot and cold water stations, motor starters, current sensors, differential pressure sensors, flow switches, damper motors, control valves, water chillers, cooling towers, steam valves etc.
    • Modifies the Johnson Controls Systems, maintains record of changes, and implements design changes to meet specific requirements for efficient and economical operation of Chiller Plant equipment and air-conditioning systems such as long term storage and decentralized programming (allowing the building control system to be operated from a remote site) to allow field repairs/programming on equipment not readily accessible (such as rooftops, ceilings, and crawl spaces)
    • Performs air balance operations and maintains records of air flow measures in distribution systems.
    • Sets up VAV systems for the control/monitoring of negative and positive pressure rooms.
    • Assumes the role of System Security Administrator issuing passwords and roles, granting system access permissions and building security administrator database in the site director, perform backup of data.
    • Meets regularly with Carelines to become familiar with operating problems, to provide updates on outstanding issues and to recommend system enhancements, upgrades, and or repairs.
    • Responsible for work performance of co-workers assigned to incumbent who consist of (3) WG Electronic Industrial Control Mechanics.
    • Passing onto the other Controls personnel the instructions received from the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist and getting work started, assigning the immediate tasks to be performed by the individual members of the group.
    • Issues assignments for work processes that are varied and routine.
    • Insuring that preventive maintenance is performed as regularly scheduled, checking equipment to its status and condition.
    • Responsible for all Lock/Out and Tag/Out, safety and housekeeping policies and procedures are followed.
    • Adjusts workloads, reviews work orders and P.M. schedules and prioritizes each.
    • Advises other workers to follow instructions and meet deadlines received from the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist. Assuring all documentation for equipment P.M's utility and equipment alarm testing is completed as set in the FMS policies and procedures.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
