UNIVERSAL SCHOOL AIDE
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This position involves responsibility for performing various activities to meet the needs of the School District in duties that include food service, cleaning, grounds keeping, monitoring students, laborer, and courier.
Employees in this class assist in performing a variety of simple repetitive tasks with tact and patience, especially when dealing with students.
The work is performed according to established procedures and performed under the direction or specific instructions of a higher level supervisor.
The incumbent does related duties as required.TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Prepares specific food items, following appropriate standards for food preparation, handling and service, ensuring the temperature, portion of food and timeliness of service;
Performs a variety of general cleaning activities including dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and cleaning windows, walls, woodwork; toilets; gathers and disposes of refuse;
Delivers mail and packages as needed;
May perform simple clerical duties or record keeping;
Responds to procedures for alarms and alerts including notifying appropriate staff;
Assists teachers and bus drivers in supervising recreation periods, lunch periods, study halls and transportation of students;
Maintains order in gymnasiums, locker rooms, swimming pools, cafeteria, playgrounds, buses, and other student access areas as requested;
Oversees students passing between classes, in locker rooms, and on premises before and after school;
Helps children in lower-level grades with wearing apparel;
Mows, rakes and cuts grass;
Keeps grounds free of litter;
Plants and cares for trees, shrubs and plants;
Removes snow and ice from walks, pathways and steps.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,
ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:
Working knowledge of meal preparation, handling and service; working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; ability to get along well with others; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions; ability to read labels and instructions relative to the safe use of food preparation, handling and service; ability to operate a variety of equipment relative to cleaning activities including vacuums, carpet cleaners; ability to maintain simple records; patience, courtesy and tactfulness.
