    Position Summary

    This is a position for a professional social worker within The Gender Clinic of which half of the role will involve direct patient care and the other half of the role will involve coordination of care.

    The Gender Clinic is a multidisciplinary clinic that provides mental health and medical treatment for gender nonconforming children and adolescents and their families. Direct patient care time will be spent on the evaluation of psychosocial needs of patients and their families and the provision of diagnostic, preventive and treatment services including individual and family therapy. Additionally, the role will include the planning and implementation of support groups for patients and their families. Care coordination time will be spent connecting patients and their families with necessary services; facilitating communication between Child Psychiatry and Pediatric Endocrinology to enhance smooth care coordination; making necessary referrals for other community services as needed and collecting and organizing program, resource, research and other data. The employee will be a resource to other clinical providers and trainees within the clinic and community providing education and support in this specialty area.

    Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Education: Knowledge of social work theories, techniques and therapies, as used in individual, family and group treatment, as well as principles of social welfare as acquired through completion of a Master's degree in social work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
    * License/Certifications: Licensure by the Maine State Board of Social Work Licensure, LCSW.
    * Experience: Experience working with children and teens and their families on a wide variety of clinical issues. Extensive family therapy training and experience is preferred. Prior experience with clinical research is desired.
    * Diverse training and experience working with transgender and gender non conforming patients and families in providing affirming treatment is preferred.
    * Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
