    Scope of Position:
    • This position is for a materials process technician to aid in surface science and engineering, coating development, mechanistic studies, and root cause chemical problems. Experiments will be typically made in the development lab, but work in other research labs and manufacturing mix rooms could occur.
    • Prepping coatings and/or surface treatment solutions for analysis and characterization, and sometimes performing and developing new tests on the surfaces, coatings and coating solutions with new, unique tests or applications. These tests will take place at various places within the Corning Valley.
    • Maintaining lab routines, policies, lab books, safety and lab organization.
    Day to Day Responsibilities:
    • Making and documentation of the making of coating formulations or other surface treatments
    • Experimentation with the parameters used to make the formulations: chemicals, temperature, time, etc.
    • Prepare solutions for chemical analysis
    • Perform tests on standard and new tests
    Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

    Required Education and Skills:
    • Associate degree in a technical field
    • Coating formulation mixing and coating application processes (Solution prep, dip, spray, etc., ...)
    • Wet chemistry and solution making techniques, knowledge of which glass ware to use
    • Experience with working with lab scale chemical reactors and small parts including programable equipment
    • Experience working with polyimide dissolution
    • Perform detailed and complex composition calculations on spreadsheets that already exist or need to be developed.
    • Experience working with mixing formulations with reactive organometallic compounds
    • Ability to learn to run analytical equipment such as FTIR, UV/Vis, pH meters, auto-titrators, chromatography methods, etc.
    • Working knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry
    • Prepare glass or other materials substrates for various surface chemistry treatments and subsequent testing
    • Demonstrated ability to find and work with chemical vendors for raw materials and existing coating formulations
    • Safety compliant and able to lead lab 5S activities
    • Scientifically observant, methodical, meticulous and curious
    Desired Skills:
    • Demonstrated ability to run and adjust coating application equipment to meet coating requirements
    • Ability to develop testing schemes to elucidate chemical mechanisms
    Soft Skills:
    • Willing to support experiments on a manufacturing scale
    • Willing to work with people from research through manufacturing and commercial to complete tasks.
    • Able to communicate effectively with people of various backgrounds.

    The range for this position is $52, $72,452.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
