Inpatient Facility Medical Coder

Candidates must reside in Washintgon or Oregon for this position.

We are looking for a remote Medical Coder to work in Clackamas, OR. The role involves accurately assigning diagnosis and procedures codes to patient health records in various facility settings like Emergency Department (ED) and Inpatient (IP). It is essential to maintain high quality and productivity levels in coding systems such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and HCPCS/CPT.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively with physicians to clarify diagnoses/procedures and abstract clinical data from health records.

Responsibilities of the Medical Coder

Proficient in translating clinical information into coded data, identifying appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
Utilizing coding software systems for accurate coding of services rendered.
Abstracting and entering clinical data elements into systems, sequencing codes correctly for proper payment classification.
Performing chart analysis to ensure accurate documentation and coding.
Staying updated on coding guidelines, attending workshops, and implementing solutions to reduce errors.

MUST HAVE SKILLS of the Medical Coder

Minimum five years of coding experience with proficiency in inpatient facility coding.
Hold a relevant Health Information or Coding Specialist Certificate.
Advanced knowledge of medical terminology, coding principles, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work efficiently under pressure.

NICE TO HAVE SKILLS for the Medical Coder

Additional experience in health information/medical record environment.
Degree in Health Information Management.
Proficiency in computer systems and software.
Ability to analyze data and coding trends effectively.
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 coding guidelines and CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding.
