    Job Description

    Job DescriptionThe Dryland Instructor at the Butler YMCA will work solely with our Barracuda Swim team. They will intentionally instruct, supervise, and reinforce proper strength training procedures for the team. They will also be knowledgeable about the basic guidelines of good nutrition and behavior modifications necessary for a healthy lifestyle. They will work closely with the swim team coaches to create dryland & nutritional/ healthy lifestyle recommendations that blend well with the team's pool sessions.

    Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum age of 21
    • Competitive Swim Team Experience; preferred
    • 1 year Group Exercise Experience; preferred
    • Personal Training Certification through a nationally recognized provider; required
    • Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science/Exercise Physiology; preferred
    • Nutrition Certification; preferred
    • CPR/First Aid/AED Certification; required
    • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

    Essential Functions:

    1. Instruct participants in weekly strength training principles, training guidelines and exercise techniques consistent with the YMCA's training philosophies and ACSM national guidelines.
    2. Create dryland workouts including that could be performed at home or at the gym for the entire team and nutritional/healthy lifestyle sessions .
    3. Attend swim meets to assist with warmups & cool downs.
    4. Ask/answer questions from program participants and parents to support them in achieving their goals related to swimming as well as a healthy lifestyle during scheduled group sessions.
    5. Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective information and support to the team.
    6. Build effective, authentic relationships with the entire team; coaches, parents & swimmers.
    7. Observe and adjust approach to support all participants' capabilities, physical conditions, health, and culture.
    8. Celebrate achievement of program participants related to program or personal goals, mastering of specific skills, swim times or overall health and well-being changes
    9. Be a good role model for participants to emulate.
    10. Maintain a neat, safe and clean environment in the specific training areas.
    11. Attend all staff meetings and approved trainings as required.
    12. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
    13. Perform other duties as assigned.
