    The Department of Mechanical Engineering at North Dakota State University is seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral appointment working in the area of additive manufacturing, mechanical testing, and materials characterization.

    The candidates should have adequate knowledge of metals, high temperature materials, microstructural characterization, and advanced manufacturing. Experience in the area of finite element analysis will be a plus.


    Prior knowledge and experience with architected materials, 4D materials, and responsive materials would also be an asset for this position.

    Other responsibilities for both positions will include documentation of research findings, meeting with other research staff, working with graduate students, collaboration on and presentation of scientific papers, grant and proposal writing, and industrial outreach.

    These positions require a high level of understanding of materials science, engineering design, and computational solid mechanics.

    The successful candidates will work closely with Dr. Fardad Azarmi from the Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr. Andrew Croll from the Department of Physics at NDSU.


    Work Schedule:
    Full-time, 40hrs/week, 12 month contract.


    Advertised Salary:
    Up to $48,000 based on experience and qualifications.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD in the field of Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or closely related fields.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Expertise in experimental techniques in materials science engineering research.
    • Knowledge of metals, ceramics, and composite materials.
    • Prior experience in the area of additive manufacturing (3D printing)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Knowledge of finite element analysis.
    • Prior experience working in interdisciplinary teams.
    • Excellent knowledge in additive manufacturing technologies (metals, ceramics, polymers, etc.)
