    Job Description

    Job Summary:
    The Summer Youth Program Coordinator is a seasonal position responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of the City of Clovis' Summer Youth program based at the Youth Recreation Building for children aged 5-11 years. The eight-week program will take place between June and July 2024 and is sponsored through a grant from the State of New Mexico Outdoor Equity Program and the City of Clovis.

    **This position requires a fingerprint background check in addition to other pre-employment clearances in accordance with the City of Clovis policy.**
    Typical Duties

    Typical Duties:
    • Create detailed lesson plans for various activities that are educational, engaging, and age-appropriate.
    • Plan and execute the daily operations of the summer program, including scheduling activities, coordinating with other staff, and managing resources.
    • Train and supervise Summer Youth Assistants and Summer Interns, providing them with clear guidance on program policies and lesson plan execution.
    • Ensure all program activities comply with safety regulations and that all staff are trained in emergency response procedures.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents, addressing concerns, and providing updates on their child's program experience.
    • Plan/review weekly schedule with staff and interns. Ensure timesheets are completed daily.
    • Work with visiting speakers/organizations throughout summer to coordinate and implement programming schedule
    • Abide by all City of Clovis personnel policies and procedures
    • Assist with beginning and end of season duties
    • Provide daily support/ back up for summer interns
    • Ensure that the Youth Recreation Building is clean at the start and close of each day
    • Collect and incorporate feedback from youth, guardians, and staff to continually improve the program experience.
    Requirements

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Prior experience in working with children aged K-5 grade either in a school and/or recreational capacity
    • Ability to perform physical tasks inherent in job responsibilities
    • Ability to lead and schedule a program
    • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Ability to assist children and other staff in emergency situations
    • Visual and auditory ability to recognize environmental hazards
    • Ability to enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures
    • Minimum age 21 with a valid driver's license and ability to pass a background check
    Licenses and Certificates:
    • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications by the start date of the program.
    Work Environment:
    • Must be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality.
    • Interruptions of work are routine.
    • Job responsibilities include both inside and outside duties.
    • Flexibility and patience are required.
    • Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision.
    • After-hours work may be required.
    • Must be able to work under stressful conditions.
    Physical Requirements:
    • Sitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, kneeling, and moving light furniture may be required.
    Safety and Health Requirements:
    • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
    Equipment/Material Handled:
    • Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology.
