    DESCRIPTION:

    Complete dental hygiene assessments, develop, plan and implement dental hygiene care plan. Provide oral health education, counseling, health screenings, and navigate associated services to all SACHS patients within the clinical departments. Under the general supervision of a licensed dentist, will participate in the preventive and therapeutic dental treatment of patients by performing oral prophylaxis, scaling, root planning, applying topical fluoride, therapeutic and sub-gingival agents for the control of caries and periodontal disease. Performs soft tissue curettage and administration of local anesthesia, nitrous oxide & oxygen under direct supervision of a licensed dentist. Assist dentist with procedures as required and regulated by Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC) under the jurisdiction of the Dental Board of California .Take and develop radiographs; set up instruments and other equipment. Utilize established dental hygiene protocol and procedures to control oral disease and help patients achieve and maintain optimal oral health.

    Schedule: This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week, 7am - 12pm and is not eligible for benefits.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DELIVERABLES:

    • Assess dental hygiene condition of patient; use patient screening procedures, to include medical history review, dental charting, and periodontal screening/charting; take patient vital signs as required.
    • Deliver direct patient care to patients as assigned, using established dental hygiene procedures; perform routine treatment procedures, such as cleaning, scaling and root planning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, therapeutic and sub-gingival agent, fluorides and related procedures.
    • Assessment and development, planning and implementation of a dental hygiene care plans including oral health education, counseling and health screenings utilizing caries rick assessment tool for all SACHS patients.
    • Educate and counsel children and adults on dental health, plaque control, oral hygiene and nutrition as well as tobacco cessation.
    • Administer local anesthetic agents and /or nitrous oxide and oxygen for dental procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
    • Take impressions for bleaching trays and apply and activate agents with non - laser, light - curing devices or in - office tooth whitening devices.
    • Perform soft tissue curettage under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist.
    • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from an accredited dental hygiene program required. Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred.
    • Licensure/Certification: Current license to practice as a Registered Dental Hygienist in California. Satisfactory completed Basic Life Support &/or CPR, California Infection Control and Dental Practice Act as minimum requirement for continuing education as licensees. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
    • Experience: One (1) year experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist in a dental clinic setting.
    • Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Thorough knowledge of computer systems in Health Care Information System, Electronic Health Records.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Visual acuity and reading ability sufficient to effectively read records and documents, and to accurately view information on a computer monitor; Good eye hand coordination, eyesight (vision may be corrected) and finger dexterity necessary for close attention to detail and handling of sharp instruments.

    Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.
