TITLE: Music /Choral Teacher
LOCATION: Glenview Middle School
SCHOOL YEAR:
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college
- South Carolina teaching certification in Music Education (Choral or Voice, preferred)
- Documented successful teaching and performing experience (preferred)
- Demonstrated proficiency in the use of technology
REPORTS TO: Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide engaging choral instruction that develops students' vocal skills, musical literacy, and confidence while fostering teamwork, creativity, and a lifelong appreciation for music.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans a program of study that conforms to the music education philosophy of the school district and meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.
- Maintains responsibility for students' safety and well-being at all times.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and—in harmony with the goals—establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, students and parents.
- Employs instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting the Visual and Performing Arts standards published by the state of South Carolina.
- Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports.
- Uses diagnostic techniques to provide the most appropriate instruction for each student.
- Communicates and works cooperatively with colleagues, students and parents.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner. Notifies parents and students of these rules.
- Provides performance opportunities for students that are a natural outgrowth of classroom work and are consistent with good musical standards.
- Maintains and improves professional competence.
- Maintains confidentiality concerning student records and data.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of all music instruments and related equipment assigned to the schools served.
- Responsible for recommending and selecting music, instruments, equipment and other instructional materials.
- Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities.
- Accepts responsibility for planning and implementing performances at school and approved community sponsored events.
- Provides performance opportunities for individuals and groups.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees.
- Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students.
- Participates in staff development programs.
- Performs other duties as directed.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 190 Days (if employed for full contract calendar). Salary to be determined by the salary schedule established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the principal.
