- Provides general dentistry to patients based on federal standards and conducts laboratory procedures as required.
- Works with the other Dentist within the site to assure the effective delivery of quality services.
- Conducts examination of new patients and determines treatment plan within the medical, dental, and financial needs of the patient.
- Treats and follows up on emergency walk-in patients.
- Diagnoses and treats dental disease in adults and/or children as authorized by their medical license and in accordance with FCCH protocols.
- Consults with other Dentist in the FCCH system on the delivery of quality dental care to patients.
- Consults with dental staff on individual patient concerns and problems.
- Participates in setting dental and nursing standards and protocols for the health center(s).
- Assists dental assistants and dental hygienists with patient triage.
- Charts patient encounters and refers patients for further diagnosis and treatment outside FCCH.
- Supervises dental students learning dental practices at the health center(s).
- Provides educational materials to patients upon discharge from care.
- Participates in continuing education and training for dental assistants and dental hygienists.
- Supervises dental assistants and dental hygienists.
- Participate in site and organizational quality assurance and improvement.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a D.D.S.;
- Two to four years dental practice experience with underserved populations preferred;
- Bi-lingual Spanish/English preferred.
- Graduation from an accredited school of dentistry with a D.D.S., NM State license to practice dentistry and national dental board exam certification is required.
- DEA License;
- New Mexico Board of Pharmacy License;
- CPR certified.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of dental care.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
- Ability to observe, assesses, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Ability to supervise, advise, and train dental staff and/or students.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.

- Physical Effort and Dexterity: Good dexterity to operate personal computer and dental equipment. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
- Machines, Tools, Equipment: Capable of using dental instruments and equipment, office machines and personal computers for word-processing and data retrieval.
- Visual Acuity, Hearing, and Speaking: Must be able to read results of computer monitor and outputs accurately. Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately for work and safety compliance.
- Environment/Working Conditions: Work is inside a clinic in a controlled environment at multiple health centers working with managers, providers, support staff, and FCCH partners. Normal office and clinic safety precautions and practices are required. Position mat require travel throughout the Albuquerque metropolitan area. Work regularly scheduled Monday-Friday, although weekends.

Under the general direction of the Dental Director and the administrative direction of the Health Center Manager, the Dentist provides general dentistry to patients and manages and treats dental infection and disease in the community in their assigned health center(s).
