    Job Summary

    The School of Dentistry's Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences' Faculty Group Practice (FGP) / AEGD Clinic is comprised of four (4) residents and the Faculty Practice has seven (7) faculty practitioners. The FGP/AEGD Clinic has three (3) full time dental hygienist, three (3) registered dental assistants, and three (3) administrative assistants. The Registered Dental Assistant will be part of a team of clinic staff, setting high standards in customer relations and clinical care for the practice. Incumbent will work chair-side with faculty, take dental x-ray films, chart dental findings, input medical and dental histories, and overall administrative tasks associated with the Practice.

    Incumbent will be responsible for assisting residents and faculty in the treatment of patients with general dentistry and prosthodontics needs (crowns, bridges, removable dentures and implant crowns.)

    Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% – 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

    For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

    Department Description

    The Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences conducts multidisciplinary instruction, research, and patient care programs through its seven divisions: Behavioral Sciences and Community Dental Education; Biomaterials and Bioengineering; Clinical General Dentistry; Endodontics; Oral Epidemiology and Dental Public Health; Pre-Clinical Simulation; and Prosthodontics.

    The educational goals of the Successful Dental Practice program include developing

    •behavioral management and communications skills,

    •ethical dentist-patient relations,

    •sensitivity and social skills,

    •practice management skills, and

    •the ability to cultivate self-reflections and well-being.

    The program integrates several disciplines including basic, clinical, and behavioral sciences under a common mission to introduce a more participatory educational format.

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be a Registered Dental Assistant and maintain California x-ray Safety License
    • Must have two years of Dental Assisting experience in a busy group dental practice
    • Familiarity with infection control policies and procedures; HIPAA
    • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance
    • Excellent multitasking and organization skills with ability to follow through to complete tasks
    • Sensitivity to patients' cultural backgrounds; and ability to maintain confidentiality
    • Knowledge of maintenance and operation of dental equipment and instruments
    • Knowledge of high clinical standards in dental assisting practices and the demonstrated ability to implement these standards. Ability to understand patients' needs and the knowledge to meet those needs

    Preferred Qualifications

    • AxiUm Practice Management Software; UCSF policies regarding cashiering, and ordering supplies

    License/Certification

    • Must be a Registered Dental Assistant and maintain California x-ray Safety License
