- Lead multiple manufacturing processes and manage the engineering and maintenance staff
- Evaluate manufacturing methodologies, systems and equipment; find efficiencies and ways to drive automation
- Implement and maintain manufacturing methodologies and systems
- Oversee improvements in manufacturing efficiency and quality by analyzing and modifying machine programs, procuring the optimal materials and equipment, and standardizing processes/materials/tooling
- Install, repair, and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventative maintenance
- Manage vendors and projects
- Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation
- Dismantle machinery and remove/replace defective parts
- Determine changes in part requirements by inspecting and measuring various instruments
- Maintain inventories of equipment, parts, and supplies by checking stock and placing orders appropriately
- Train production works on routine preventative maintenance
- Provide mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and service requests
- Prepare maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering (or similar discipline) preferred, or sufficient experience
- Strong leadership skills; ability to analyze, evaluate and make recommendations for improvement to senior leadership
- Experience overseeing a team of direct reports; desire to mentor and create a cohesive team culture
- Ability to provide strategic direction and collaborate with senior leadership
- Ability to operate and understand machinery and technical equipment
- Experience with plant expansion; capacity planning
- In depth knowledge of machinery including vendors and specific capabilities by brand
- In-depth knowledge of system maintenance
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations
- GMP and ISO experience preferred
- Experience with process manufacturing preferred
- Skilled in analyzing information, creating reports, and crafting SOPs and Work Instructions
- Experience with 5s and Lean Manufacturing preferred
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations
- Ability to communicate cross-functionally with respect
- Passion for training, mentoring, and teaching others of all levels of knowledge/experience
- Occasional weekend or evening support

Overview
Our client is seeking an exceptional Director, Engineering & Maintenance to join their team. This role reports to the SVP of Manufacturing, and will lead a small but mighty team of mechanics to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair plant machinery, facilities, and other equipment. The Director of Engineering and Maintenance should be a strong leader who is passionate about continuous improvement, mentoring and teaching staff, and establishing processes within the Engineering arm of our facility. They will be expected to find efficiencies and ways to drive automation while providing strategic direction and planning for future expansion.

Founded in 2010 and based in the Austin area, our client is a leading manufacturer of clean and green personal care and beauty products for third party brands. They specialize in natural deodorant, skincare, and facial care products, serving some of the best known brands in the indie beauty arena. The company has a wealth of experience in the formulation of these products and can develop according to a variety of guidelines from consumer organizations such as Ecocert to EWG, to retailers such as Credo or Sephora.
