    The Math Lead will provide instructional leadership to math teachers to provide an enriching and innovative learning environment whereby students achieve post-secondary readiness by enhancing articulation in curriculum alignment with the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards as well as horizontal alignment across classrooms at the same grade level and vertical alignment between grades. The lead will facilitate the development and use of common assessments to determine instructional strategies that will most effectively meet the needs of students and prepare them for post-secondary futures.

    Ideally, the Math Lead should have experience teaching multiple levels of math (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, &c.) and be welcome to a broad range of topics while readily available to students and colleagues beyond the classroom and for enhancement.

    The following duties are critical to the overall educational program and require effective and ongoing communication and collaboration with staff and administration:

    • Inspire math educators to create an education of excellence that meets each student's interests, abilities, and needs within a unified curricular framework which reflects and promotes an understanding of, and, appreciation for, diversity in our community as an integral part of school life leading to post-secondary success.
    • Teach two (2) periods of math for students and as a model of highly effective curricular, instructional, and assessment practices for math teachers demonstrating unconditional belief in all students and urgency to accelerate their learning under the principles of Grading for Equity.
    • Serve as communication liaison between faculty, administration, and families as they reimagine, redesign, and refine curriculum and pedagogy around the New York State Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards incorporating math lab, implementation of instructional technology, and the availability of the New Visions and NY Engage framework.
    • Supervise and assist the development of course guides, teacher guides, and courses.
    • Lead math teachers in curriculum, assessment, and instruction within the department through the Modern Classrooms Project approach incorporating blended instruction, self-paced structures, and standards mastery based grading.
    • Observe, coach, and support the growth of math teachers in curriculum, assessment, and instruction under the Danielson Framework through data and reflection.
    • Participate in and support meaningful data meetings and deep dives in line with department-wide, grade level-wide, and school-wide goals.
    • Manage and lead math teachers in department meetings, supply ordering, lab management, and record keeping.
    • Foster a strong and cohesive school culture through community building and restorative practices.
    • Be open to feedback under the Danielson Framework and/or Reeves Leadership Framework.
    • Maintain active relationships with local, regional, and national associations and opportunities for professional development in the math subject area.
    • Develop and share professional development for the math department.
    • Advocate for the math department while supporting the wider mission in the school.
    • The employee is required to complete additional tasks as assigned.

    Required qualifications include:

    • BA/BS and MA/MS
    • Ability to work well with a range of able, highly motivated adults and youth
    • Highly effective communication and organizational skills
    • High levels of energy and creativity
    • Experience conducting classroom observations
    • Experience in providing professional development
    • Valid or pending NYS educational and/or educational leadership certification

    Preferred qualifications include:

    • Minimum of 5-7 years relevant teaching experience in an urban high school setting
    • Demonstrated experience in the development of curriculum and departmental organization
    • Familiarity and success with teaching New York State Regents Examination courses
    • Multilingual (English, Spanish, and/or other)
    • Knowledge of Restorative Justice and Practices
    • Knowledge of Critical Race Theory
    • Knowledge of and/or experience with Modern Classrooms Project and/or Grading for Equity
    • Experience with the Google Suite, PowerSchool, Edgenuity, Edpuzzle, Khan Academy, Remind, Zoom, Schoology, and/or Performance Matters
