    Description
    Polk County Public Schools is looking for adaptable, independent, and detail-oriented Middle School Teachers to join the team at Roosevelt Academy in Lake Wales.

    Ideal applicants meet the following education and experience requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in any field is required, preferably in the field of mathematics, language arts, or exceptional student education.
    • Certification in Middle School Grades in Language Arts, Reading, ESE, or Math by the Florida Department of Education. (Applicants who are not yet certified are encouraged to apply. We may be able to hire applicants initially as a provisional substitute and place you in the classroom while you work on getting certified.)

    The ideal candidate would be able to provide instruction to middle school-aged students in the area of science and also be able to collaborate with staff and families regarding student performance.
    Applicants with a bachelor's degree in any area are welcome to apply. We have options available to help you get in the classroom while you work through certification requirements.

    Here's the work you'll contribute to the team:
    • Plan and implement a program of instruction that adheres to the district's philosophy, goals, and objectives as outline in the adopted courses of study.
    • Make purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and maximizes time on task.
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning by employing a variety of appropriate teaching strategies.
    • Keep current in subject matter knowledge and learning theory and be willing to share this knowledge for the continual improvement of the school's curriculum.
    • Develop reasonable rules of classroom behavior and appropriate discipline techniques which are consistently applied.
    • Uphold and enforce school board policy, administrative procedures, and school rules and regulations.
    • Continue professional growth through attendance at workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced coursework.
    • Evaluate the accomplishments of students on a regular basis using multiple assessment methods.
    • Make appropriate adjustments in the instructional program based on assessed results.
