JOB SUMMARY AND SCOPEUnder the supervisor of the Imaging Manager, the Sonographer provides quality echocardiogram services to adult patients, inpatient and outpatient.
Services and testing are performed within the scope of practice of the Cardiopulmonary Services department and within the licensure guidelines as defined by the State of Maine.
This position will be 4-10 shifts per week split between Machias and Calais as needed.RequirementsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTSCredentials:
Certified Sonographer - RDCSEducation: Associates Degree required in related field
Experience:
At least 2 years clinical experience
Preferred Skills:
Current Basic Life Support certification
Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy physiology
Abilities:
Able to perform echocardiograms independently on adult patients. This position will be 4-10 shifts per week split between Machias and Calais as needed. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSConsistently able to complete all testing without sacrificing quality of care provided.

Reports any incomplete work assignments so as to provide continuity of care.
Checks and verifies physician order prior to initiation of testing.
Properly identifies the patient as per hospital policy.
Documents as per department policy.
Follows standard precautions and adheres to posted cautions in all clinical situations.
ECHOCARDIOGRAMSProficient in adult echocardiograms utilizing Doppler and color flow Review patient history and results of prior diagnostic studiesRecords images using proper identification informationSends studies to interpreting Cardiologist Maintains positive and professional atmosphere for patientsDemonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with patientsMaintains room stock and suppliesReports equipment failure to Imaging ManagerUses patient handling equipment appropriate to the needs of the individual patient in keeping with the Safe Patient and Handling and Movement Policy.
Seeks out needed information by staying informed and involved by attending meetings, reading memos, policies, meeting minutes, newsletters, email and other appropriate information in a timely manner.

Frequently pushes/pulls 100 pounds using mechanical and other assistive devices. Walks, stands, kneels, bends most of the time. Exhibits fine motor skills and manual dexterity necessary to perform the essential job functions of the position. Visual acuity correctable to 20/20. Color vision is necessary.
