    Hazen and Sawyer is seeking a talented Data Engineer/BI Developer to join our corporate BI team. This opportunity involves working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists to develop BI solutions for a wide array of water-related projects in the West and nationwide. The position also involves collaborating with our innovative technology teams to leverage Hazen's data analytics platform and grow BI delivery capacity. Internal and external training, development of training resources and templates, and guiding project setups will be an important component of the candidate's portfolio.

    The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team, and will have the technical, organizational, and communication skills to:

  • Lead or guide the development and implementation of BI solutions throughout their lifecycle
  • Execute hands-on development of the ETL processes, data models, measures, and visualizations necessary to build reliable dashboards for clients internal and external
  • Work with project teams to articulate requirements, design and code tools, and deliver solutions to clients
  • Develop protocols, technical documentation, and training materials
  • Assess client needs and strategize approaches
  • Participate in occasional on-site data collection activities
  • Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • BS in STEM, plus MS in STEM or equivalent experience
  • Minimum one year work experience plus demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft BI stack ( Power Query, Power BI, Power Platform)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Certifications in Power BI, Azure, and/or Fabric
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, R), SQL, and software development methodologies
  • Familiarity with statistics, machine learning, and advanced data analytics
  • Familiarity with water quality and/or water/wastewater treatment processes
  • Familiarity with UI and graphical design
