    Under the direction of the RN Supervisor or Site Manager, the Medical Assistant supports the patient by actively participating in the interdisciplinary care team and assists providers in the delivery of primary care services. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position working Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm, an occasional evening until 7/8p, and an occasional Saturday 9:00a-12p. Schedules may be subject to change.

    Requirements:

    • MA's are required to be certified or completion of course work and equivalent experience and would be hired as Med Tech.
    • Acceptable certification:
      • CMA certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants
      • RMA certification through American Medical Technologists
      • CCMA certification through National Healthcareer Association
      • NCMA certification through National Center for Competency Testing
      • NRCMA certification through National Association for Health Professionals
    • Basic typing skills and the ability to use computer software systems.
    • Basic Life Support/CPR training, certification, or the ability to become certified
    Responsibilities:
    • Greet patients, complete and verify forms, and direct patients to exam rooms
    • Take vital signs document information in the electronic medical records system
    • Assist with examination and procedures and complete necessary cleanup
    • Implement provider orders (immunizations, testing, obtaining lab specimens, documenting results, etc.)
    • Tactfully deal with patients undergoing treatment in stressful situations
    • Follow directions and work effectively with professional and paraprofessional staff
    • Manage time effectively
    • Manage clinic flow for assigned providers
    • Prepare charts for visits, file patient information, and assist with medical records duties
    • Retrieve and distribute results to health care providers, laboratories, and medical records as directed. Give abnormal results to provider
    • Request test results and referral information from other offices and update patients' charts accordingly
    • Contact patients who are due for services and schedule appointments
    • Sterilize and clean equipment
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Complete chart preparation for each patient including review of population health management system (i.e., Care Sentry), review and update incomplete orders and referrals, and gather other information that may be required such as hospital records. Record information in the EHR.
    • Manage clinic flow.
    • Greet patients, determine needs, and direct patients to the examining room.
    • Follow rooming procedure including asking about recent ER/Hospital visits, taking vital signs, and completing screening tests and health maintenance orders as identified in the chart preparation. Record in the EHR.
    • May perform medication review with removal of short-term medications such as antibiotics from the medication module.
    • Prepare for and assist providers with examination and procedures and complete necessary cleanup.
    • Implement provider orders, i.e., blood draws, ECG's, labs, dressings, treatments, refills, routine testing procedures, etc. and document results in HER as appropriate.
    • Prepare specimens for transportation, complete necessary forms as indicated, and arrange for transportation.
    • File patient information and assist with medical records responsibilities.
    • May administer high-risk medications/injections according to established program/site guidelines.
    • Manage all aspects of the vaccine program including storage and handling, inventory management, ordering and reporting.
    • Manage telephone inquiries appropriately and carry out patient call backs as assigned, but not including patient triage.
    • Assist nurses and providers with incoming patient healthcare information.
    • May be responsible for approving timecards in the time and attendance system as directed by supervisor.
    • Adhere to universal precautions and Cherry Health policies.
    • Understand and adhere to Cherry Health's compliance standards as they appear in Cherry Health's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
    • Keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Cherry Health regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
    • May precept medical assistant apprentices, externs, or new employees as necessary.
    • Represent Cherry Health at community events, job/recruitment fairs, etc. as requested.
    • Other duties as assigned.
