The Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for fostering positive relationships between the organization and the local community. This role involves developing and implementing community outreach initiatives, building partnerships, and promoting the organization's mission within the Afghan community in St. Louis and the Multicultural Center. This position requires strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a deep understanding of Afghan culture and community dynamics. By effectively engaging with the community, the Community Relations Coordinator contributes to the organization's mission of providing support and empowerment to local Afghan families and the promotion of the Multicultural Center and its offerings.

    Fluency in Pashto and Dari language (required)


    Duties/Responsibilities

    • Oversee the design, marketing, and delivery of programs and services tailored to the needs of the Afghan community and Multicultural Center.
    • Publish the Afghan Journal, a monthly newsletter featuring stories relevant to the Afghan community in St. Louis
    • Ensure timely and quality publications, adhering to established deadlines and standards.
    • Recruit and supervise program interns to find/write content for the Afghan Journal.
    • Provide administrative and program support for the Multicultural Center.
    • Organize workflows and delegate responsibilities to achieve program objectives.
    • Participate in fundraising planning and grant-writing efforts.
    • Manage program budgets and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
    • Contribute to creating a positive image of the organization within the community.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Required Skills/Abilities

    • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English, Farsi, and Pashto.
    • Knowledge of Afghan culture and the St. Louis community.
    • Knowledge of community resources
    • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong interpersonal skills
    • Ability to make quick, sound decisions.
    • Understand and adhere to professional boundaries.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, as necessary.
    • Must be meticulous, but able to maintain a balanced perspective in rapidly changing business circumstances.
    • Ability to work productively in a multicultural environment and demonstrate respect for differences.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.

    Other

    • Work occasional weekends and nights.
    • Must have a car and valid driver's license with proof of insurance.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, journalism, communications, or related field or related experience.
    • Minimum 5 years of public relations experience.
    • Accreditation by a professional society (preferred).
    • Experience in community engagement and program development.
