- Executes moderate to complex technical assignments including cost savings, quality improvements, operation support and new product development
- Responsible for identifying, defining and solving technical packaging challenges. Work 'hands on' with operations address issues.
- Develop external industry network through work with suppliers, interactions and participation with technical organizations.
- Work closely with equipment vendors to ensure packaging machinability
- Work closely with and Product Development to ensure that key product requirements are identified and delivered
- Identify, conduct and analyze package performance testing on materials and components
- Perform package stability testing where appropriate
- Initiate distribution testing where applicable
- Perform field inspections to evaluate storage and transportation damage
- Work with external package testing labs as appropriate.
- Gains working knowledge of practical applied problem-solving techniques used by related functions and understands their impact within own sphere of influence.
- Technical project leader managing the technical timeline, providing timely communication, outlining issues, risks and contingency plans. Must handle multiple projects.
- Work with cross functional partners by attending team, commercialization, and individual meetings to understand/define the scope of work required for the different initiatives.
- Conduct, coordinate functional testing including plant trials, lab testing, shelf life studies and material vendor evaluations.
- Develops written packaging specifications and completes thorough plant trial reports.
- Responsible for identifying, defining and solving technical packaging challenges.
- Develop, test and commercialize packaging programs across multiple project types.
- Support the pipeline development/validation/execution of packaging productivity projects
- Understanding of the financial impact of packaging programs and the linkage of packaging to business strategies.
- Demonstrates application of knowledge to new or ambiguous situations to solve problems and progress projects.
- Stays up to date on packaging trends and new technology.
- Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Solid understanding and experience with paperboard, corrugate, film, and plastic packaging materials.
- Ability to execute multiple tasks at once and is learning how to leverage others to accomplish a goal.

SUMMARY
The R&D Packaging Engineer is responsible for executing packaging initiatives across the organization. This position will work closely with members of R&D and procurement to support cost savings and cost avoidance initiatives. Works directly with operations to solve packaging related issues.
This position will be a crucial component in organizing, planning, managing, and executing packaging innovation, development and cost reduction projects.
The individual in this role will help support Supply Chain in manufacturing packages that meet customer and consumer expectations for character, cost, and quality.
The position develops cooperative working relationships with cross-functional teams, the manufacturing plants (internal & external) as well as external packaging material vendors.
The individual will serve as a technical resource to the organization for packaging.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Education and/or Experience
BS/MS in Package Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field. 1-3 years of experience in
Packaging Development
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong Communication Skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, regulatory
and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or
members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups,
and/or boards of directors. Ability to interact and collaborate with R&D groups, external resources, suppliers and
consultants to achieve project objectives. Ability to be persuasive, assertive, while also being collaborative. The ability
to work with all levels of management
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such
as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to
deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal
with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Gains working knowledge of practical applied problem-solving
techniques used by related functions and understands their impact within own sphere of influence. Demonstrated
problem solving mastery within own technical field. Able to identify technical opportunities and risks areas, make
appropriate judgment and report to management. Must be creative, but at the same time possess analytical skills
