The radiologic technologist carefully reviews each patient's medical history and the physician's instructions for the prescribed imaging procedure.
They take the time to thoroughly explain the upcoming exam process, the equipment involved, and what the patient can expect, ensuring the patient understands and is prepared to cooperate fully.
When ordered by the physician, the technologist properly prepares and administers any required contrast media or medications to the patient, acting within their scope of authorized practices.
Throughout the procedure, they vigilantly monitor the patient's condition and immediately report or respond to any changes in the patient's status as needed.
Prior to the imaging exam, the technologist sets up all necessary equipment and supplies. They select the appropriate technical exposure factors and imaging parameters based on the ordered procedure and patient characteristics. Adhering to all safety protocols, they perform required quality control tests on the imaging equipment.If any equipment malfunctions occur, the technologist troubleshoots the issue, resolves it if possible, or promptly reports it to the appropriate personnel.
With the equipment prepared, the technologist carefully positions the patient for the imaging procedure(s) and captures the diagnostic images.They analyze the resulting images, identifying any quality issues that need to be addressed by repositioning the patient or repeating the imaging process.
