    Job Duties:


    The Virginia Dept for the Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) provides people with disabilities comprehensive, individualized services to realize optimal personal independence and employment.

    DBVI is seeking a Maintenance & Operations Coordinator to ensure our physical plant environment is aligned with the agency's mission and program goals.

    Effective management of our physical plant environment provides a safe, functional, aesthetically pleasing, barrier free environment for clients, visitors and staff.

    In addition, proper management extends the life span and cost effectiveness of the building systems.


    This position will plan and manage automated building systems, non-capital construction projects, and coordinate the work of vendors, contractors and staff performing work related to the physical plant to ensure the work has been completed accurately and timely.

    Plans and executes a preventive maintenance program for fire safety, lighting, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and structural maintenance.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will have:
    Knowledge/Experience -Valid Virginia Driver's License. Experience in developing and overseeing the preventative maintenance program.

    Any combination of experience and/or training progressively responsible experience in planning, organizing, and coordinating planned maintenance and/or construction projects and leading the work of others.

    Considerable experience using electrical and manual tools related to all trades.


    Demonstrated competency in office practices, procedures and current office equipment including computer programs in Word and Excel, as well as other relevant software systems (i.e., energy management systems) required to manage the work.

    Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, Grounds/Landscaping and equipment repair and maintenance. Knowledge of security, access control systems, and locksmith duties; ability to maintain a computerized facility access control system. Knowledge and competency in the Commonwealth's procurement system. Knowledge to estimate jobs and ability to lay out new construction.

    Knowledge of Federal and State regulations, ability to apply them to facility planning, operations and maintenance, building codes and code requirements on life safety equipment.

    Knowledge and ability to maintain and develop automated building and preventive maintenance systems.


    Skills/Abilities -Ability to read and work from blueprints to diagnose service and repair all types of mechanical/electrical equipment; to set priorities and to organize, coordinates, and directs the work of others.

    Ability to meet established schedules and timelines Ability to supervise a medium and varied work force; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
