    Our organization

The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) is an independent nonprofit that puts rigorous, independent science into action, developing solutions and advocating for a healthy, safe, and just future.

We envision a peaceful, healthy, and just world where science serves people and the planet by guiding policy decisions, reducing risks, and improving lives.

For over five decades, we have been working as scientists, engineers, economists, advocates, and everyday people to create and advocate for innovative, practical solutions to some of our planet's most pressing problems—from combating global warming and developing sustainable ways to feed, power, and transport ourselves, to fighting misinformation, advancing racial equity, and reducing the threat of nuclear war.

    Values informing our work include:

    • Science in the service of people and the planet.
    • Justice and Equity for people of all races and incomes—now, and for future generations.
    • Courage to take principled, science-based stands in the public arena.
    • Integrity to always examine evidence critically, openly, and honestly.
    • Democracy promotes a voice for all in government decisions.
    • Action inspires and mobilizes people to build a healthier, safer, and more just world.
    UCS's Science Network

The UCS Science Network is a network of thousands of scientists, engineers, economists, public health specialists, and other experts throughout the country who share the desire to put their knowledge to work to protect our health, safety, and environment.

The Science Network (SN) enables technical experts to advance the role of science in tackling today's complex problems.

Key elements of building the UCS Science Network are engaging a diverse group of scientists, developing a sense of community where members can be inspired by and learn from one another, and building the organizing skills and political acumen of leaders in science advocacy.

    The Position
The Science Network Organizing Manager will build long-term strategies and programming for scientist-distributed organizing.

This person will lead the development of approaches and systems that bolster Science Network's organizing initiatives to directly connect with UCS's issue-based campaigns, advance an inclusive scientist advocacy movement, and serve as a unique asset in our justice-centered programming.

They will work across programs and departments to identify and help develop resources, training, and guidance to support scientist organizing at UCS.

This role will have the opportunity to work with many stakeholders across the organization (as well as with external partners and SN members) to improve our ability to equip scientists to engage in advocacy and organize their actions within their community.

Working with the rest of the Science Network team, the Organizing Manager will help strengthen the connection between the Science Network's member cultivation efforts, our work to build a base of supporters that aligns with our values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, and organizing opportunities that will help retain and engage Science Network members.

They will act as a strategist and thought partners for UCS campaigns seeking to strengthen their scientist organizing.

They will create opportunities for scientist advocates to build a community together to learn and grow together as equity-focused advocates.

As an essential part of their work developing programming and resources, they will help measure and evaluate the impact of our work to continue to learn and strengthen our organizing efforts.
