UAA College of Health
Serving almost 18,000 students, the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the largest of the three universities in the University of Alaska system. Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as community-engaged, UAA is a comprehensive university consisting of a main campus in Anchorage, four community campuses in southcentral Alaska, and several extension sites in rural communities and on military installations. UAA has a unique university mission, spanning occupational certificates and AA degrees to bachelors' degrees, practice doctorates and PhD degrees. The university offers graduate degrees in conjunction with partner organizations and offers the Medical Degree through collaborative arrangements with the University of Washington Seattle.
The UAA community celebrates a rich cultural heritage and diverse student body with Alaska's indigenous peoples accounting for the largest percentage of students of color. Many of the university's students are first generation college students. The attractive wooded campus at the foot of the Chugach Mountains serves as a central hub for Alaska's largest city. Anchorage has urban amenities, exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities, and is home to peoples of many backgrounds, with more than 90 languages spoken in the homes of public-school students. Graduates serve the breadth of Alaskan communities, from small, remote Alaska Native villages, to medium-size fishing communities, to metropolitan Anchorage.
The Department of Human Services, one of the units composing the School of Justice and Human Services, located within the College of Health, offers a range of occupational endorsement certificates, the AAS in Human Services, and the Bachelors of Human Services (BHS), a unique professional degree responsive to the social and cultural needs of Alaska.
