    Serving almost 18,000 students, the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) is the largest of the three universities in the University of Alaska system. Recognized by the Carnegie Foundation as community-engaged, UAA is a comprehensive university consisting of a main campus in Anchorage, four community campuses in southcentral Alaska, and several extension sites in rural communities and on military installations. UAA has a unique university mission, spanning occupational certificates and AA degrees to bachelors' degrees, practice doctorates and PhD degrees. The university offers graduate degrees in conjunction with partner organizations and offers the Medical Degree through collaborative arrangements with the University of Washington Seattle.

    The UAA community celebrates a rich cultural heritage and diverse student body with Alaska's indigenous peoples accounting for the largest percentage of students of color. Many of the university's students are first generation college students. The attractive wooded campus at the foot of the Chugach Mountains serves as a central hub for Alaska's largest city. Anchorage has urban amenities, exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities, and is home to peoples of many backgrounds, with more than 90 languages spoken in the homes of public-school students. Graduates serve the breadth of Alaskan communities, from small, remote Alaska Native villages, to medium-size fishing communities, to metropolitan Anchorage.

    The Department of Human Services, one of the units composing the School of Justice and Human Services, located within the College of Health, offers a range of occupational endorsement certificates, the AAS in Human Services, and the Bachelors of Human Services (BHS), a unique professional degree responsive to the social and cultural needs of Alaska. The Council on Standards for Human Services Education accredits the AAS and BHS degree programs. The department is responsive to students from across Alaska, values diversity, and offers courses through multiple distance delivered on-line methods. Students can complete practicum and courses within their home communities. The department is responsive to adult learners who bring considerable experience in human, health, and social services enriching the experience of their colleagues and faculty. An interdisciplinary faculty engage in a wide-array of collaborative teaching, research-informed projects, and service activities with a deep commitment to advancing human services workforce in Alaska.

    To thrive in this role, strong interpersonal skills are essential as are coordination, communication, and organizational skills. Applicants should have the ability to teach students and advance their core values as well as knowledge and core competencies in public, nonprofit, and tribal human resources. Applicants should have the ability to create, sustain, and strengthen practicum opportunities in human service organizations serving diverse populations as well as have knowledge of human service trends and workforce development challenges in Alaska and/or nationally. Additionally, applicants should maintain skills in assessment of academic programs.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Master's degree from an accredited program in a profession and/or discipline relevant to the advancement of human services practice in community corrections, diversion and the re-entry of justice-involved people. Candidate will bring at least two years of post-graduate practice experience.

    The department prefers candidates with doctoral degrees, either the Ph.D. or a professional doctorate. Candidates who are completing doctoral education or who have plans for entering a doctoral program are welcome to submit their applications.

    Position Details:

    This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. This is not a remote position. This is a full-time, 9-month, term-funded, nontenure track faculty position with a one year appointment, complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package including tuition waivers for employees and family members, affordable medical, dental and vision coverage, and representation under a Collective Bargaining Unit. Salary will be based upon applicable academic preparation and experience.
