    Classification Description Summary


    Under the general supervision of the Court Operations Manager, this technical level position performs a variety of specialized functions in support of the Reno Municipal Court's information technology needs.

    This position is responsible for performing a broad range of duties in the areas of desktop and hardware support, courtroom audio/visual/recording equipment, and network connectivity.


    DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS


    Employees in this position must have prior knowledge of various hardware and software systems in order to maintain, administer, and attend to all court technology needs.

    Employees in this position are expected to respond to internal and external technology related requests in a timely and effective manner.

    This position requires the employee to work closely with the Court Operations Manager to collaborate on information technology efforts yet also independently to prioritize issues as they arise, often working with little supervision or direction.

    Employees in this position must be aware of technological advances and be prepared to make suggestions toward improvements in this area.

    As new technologies are adopted by the court, the employee in this position will coordinate installation of programs or devices.

    Essential Functions

    The following duties are typical for this classification.

    Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.


    Receives and prioritizes help desk requests from internal users regarding problems with computer hardware and software, network connectivity issues, and problems with court video/audio recording and broadcast equipment.

    Diagnoses technical problems and makes repairs or escalates as needed.


    Installs, configures, upgrades, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains all court technology equipment including computer software and hardware, servers and peripherals, including printers and scanners.


    Periodic backup of key file servers, and updating various plug-ins and applications in order to maintain compatibility with case management system and other programs.

    Imaging and deployment of new PC's and peripherals as needed by the court.

    Offer viable suggestions to court administration on how to effectively solve court technology related issues.

    Maintains and troubleshoots servers, network storage, networking equipment, and network connection.

    Establishes and maintains effective, cooperative, and professional working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


    Acts as liaison between court and technology vendors, effectively communicating with vendors as needed for administration of the case management software and other programs.

    Adapts to changing technologies and learns functionality of new equipment and systems.

    Assists in the planning of information technology projects.

    Minimum Qualifications


    The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.


    Knowledge of:
    Operating characteristics of computer systems and procedures.

    Basic principles used in the analysis, design, programming, and maintenance of computer systems.

    Computer operating systems and local area network applications.

    Network, protocols, standards, hardware, structures and cabling.

    Network environments and local area network operations.

    Procedures for data processing documentation.

    Software including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and graphics applications.

    Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations


    Ability to:
    Install, operate, repair, and maintain computer equipment, related to peripherals and software. Identify and troubleshoot computer and network problems and implement solutions.

    Understand, interpret, and effectively explain a variety of hardware and software applications to users.

    Configure routers, switches, and firewalls.

    Work independently to analyze problems and implement solutions.

    Organize and prioritize work schedule and handle multiple priorities.

    Adapt to changing technologies and learn functionality of new equipment and systems.

    Work in a team based environment to achieve common goals.

    Coordinate multiple projects and complex tasks simultaneously.

    Meet the physical requirements to safely and effectively perform the assigned duties. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


    Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

    A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:


    Education/Training:
    Three years of professional IT experience providing support and maintenance of information systems, including installing, configuring, and troubleshooting.


    Experience:
    Three years of increasingly responsible computer and network experience.
