    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Under the supervision of the Program Director and consistent with the Gaston County Family YMCA Christian Mission, the Transportation staff, Commercial Driver's License Driverwill be responsible for the safety of all participants in their care in a YMCA vehicle.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Driver:
    • Keep all children safe in your care.
    • Be a role model and set a great example for all children in your area of influence.
    • Attend all trainings as directed.
    • Record and report any participant absences to your supervisor.
    • Provide safe transportation to and from your scheduled destination.
    • Report any maintenance issues to the Property Director as well as your direct supervisor.
    • Maintain a clean vehicle at all times.
    • Followwithout variation the routes established before set trips.
    • Stop the vehicle, open doors and assist all participants entering and exiting the vehicle to ensure safety for all children.
    • Follow all branch safety rules.
    • Do a walk-around and record it on the forms provided Daily or Weekly.
    • Display a willingness to assist at all times in the areas of maintaining the building, grounds, and equipment.
    • Follow all program guidelines, Get Slick Training and emergency procedures of the Gaston County Family YMCA.
    • Group Control is essential in the handling and care of children.Force is never to be used.
    • Follow all Staff Code of Conduct rules.
    • Must understand and communicate the YMCA mission in all we do.
    • Must avoid any act that would be regarded by the administration or by parents as inconsiderate, improper or harmful to the campers/participants, staff or program (including gossip).
    • All other duties as assigned directly/indirectly related to the program by the Site Director or the Association Afterschool Director.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:
    • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
    • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
    • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
    • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
    • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
    • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
    • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • At least 21 years of age.
    • Must have a valid NC Driver's License and able to drive with no restrictions.
    • Must have a Commercial Driver's License with Passenger endorsement.
    • Experience working with children.
    • Experience driving a bus for 6 months or more prior to hiring preferred.
