    About the Position

    Join our team We are looking for part time Library Associates. This position performs paraprofessional library work in providing reference, information, and material loan services to customers.
    Information about the current open positions
    The current openings are part-time. Library system hours include:
    • Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
    • Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
    • All library associates work some weekend and evening shifts and can be expected to work at several different locations.
    The eligible list created from this posting will be used to fill the current openings and any future full-time or part-time openings in the Library Associate title for six months.

    Primary Responsibilities:
    • Welcoming community members, explaining library services, answering questions, providing information, and locating library materials.
    • Empowering users to build skills and problem-solve through one-on-one assistance, group or individual study, and referrals to other resources in the community.
    • Creating and facilitating events, activities, learning circles, and programs for all ages, such as story time.
    • Creating safer spaces for customers and staff by using de-escalation techniques and trauma-sensitive services, striving to create healing-centered environments for members of the public.
    • Leading projects such as homework center, career lab services, or a makerspace.

    Position Requirements

    A bachelor's degree; or two years of college (60 semester credits) and two years of reference and referral library services experience plus two courses in library-related classes; or a Certificate in Urban Library Services or equivalent certification and one-year of library services experience.

    Note: Library Associates assigned to driving the Bookmobile will require a Class D driver's license.

    Assessment: Qualifications Rating

    The Qualifications Rating is an assessment of your completed application and answers to the Supplemental Questionnaire.     Eligible Lists Created from Open Job Posting: You must receive a score of 75% or higher to pass the assessment and be considered for the position. Non-promotion eligible lists typically are pass/fail and promotion eligible lists are typically ranked. If the open eligible list created contains a veteran, one open list will exist. When there are no veterans remaining on the eligible list (i.e. hired, withdrawn) from an open list that also contains promotional candidates, two lists will be created: one open list and one promotion list. If two lists exist, the promotion list must be exhausted before the open list is considered.

    Final Selection Process: Those who pass will be placed on an eligible list for approximately six months and all will be notified of their status. A Hiring Manager will consider those applicants eligible for hire. You will be notified if you are invited to participate in the final selection process which may include an interview, job simulation, work sample submission, or other evaluation method.
    Condition of Employment: This position may require a driver's license check or a background checkwhich may include criminal history, and employment history as a condition of employment.
