    Medical Instrument Technician (Cardiac Catheterization) at Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration in Boise, Idaho, United States Job Description Summary This position is in the Cardiac Cath Lab, Nursing Service, Boise VA Medical Center, Boise, ID.

    This lab provides cardiac procedural diagnosis and intervention for both inpatients and outpatients.

    The Cardiac Catheterization Technician works closely with cardiologist, clinicians, technologist, nurses and clerical staff to assure optimum quality control, efficient coordination of activities, high quality diagnostic/therapeutic exam results, and patient satisfaction.

    Responsibilities Secures patient's confidence / cooperation during procedures. Explains the procedure, positions patient for desired results, cushions and shields patient for a variety of difficult procedures. Properly incorporates appropriate PPE when conducting procedures. Gathers patient information from the electronic medical record. Operates cardiac physiologic monitoring equipment. Sets up and calibrate pressure transducers. Properly identifies, labels and samples intracardiac and vascular waveforms.

    Completely and accurately documents all aspects of the procedure including capturing and inputting data or procedural calculations in the hemodynamic monitoring system.

    Preps and drapes clients for invasive / operative procedures. Facilitates insertion and manipulation of guidewires and catheters into vasculature under fluoroscopic guidance for diagnostic and interventional purposes. Obtains invasive hemodynamic data, cardiac output, and blood samples. Injects contrast manually or with the aid of a mechanical contrast device to visualize anatomical structures (angiography, venography, etc.). Administers intra-coronary medications via manifold system during angiography procedures in accordance with physician orders. Operates single plane fluoroscopic equipment utilized in imaging. Manipulates imaging equipment to optimally define anatomy.

    Selects magnification acquisition techniques specific for procedures and anatomy and performs post processing of acquired images including quantitative analysis, digital subtraction and image annotation Work Schedule:
