    Description


    RELOCATION ASSISTANT AVAILABLE; ON-SITE PREFERRED.Will review remote applicants who live with in a 250 mile radius of Silver City, New MexicoGeneral DescriptionThe coder is responsible for assigning the correct diagnosis and procedure codes.

    S/he adheres to official coding guidelines. Maintains coding certification, education and stays current with coding changes.
    S/he is consistent in accuracy and productivity according to industry standards.
    Responsible for communicating with providers in a professional manner. Comfortable educating and supporting clinical documentation improvement with providers.
    Communicates clearly in a timely manner with the HIM Manager and team members. S/he supports medical records quality through a complete review of every medical record coded.

    Essential functions are critical or fundamental to the performance of the job. They are the major functions for which the person in the job is held accountable. Computer skills, use Microsoft Office, and navigate EMR. Knowledge and understanding of the official coding guidelines.

    Abstract clinical information, research and assign appropriate diagnosis and procedure codes Code multiple specialties Professional engagement with providers and multiple departments Can identify opportunities in documentation to support appropriate queries and provider education.

    HIPAA compliant. Work independently. Communicates professionally and in a timely manner with HIM Manager and team members. Track trends to support CDI and maintain the quality of the medical record. Other duties, as assigned.
    Education & Training Requirements High School Diploma Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), AHIMA Coding Certification - preferred Certified Professional Coder (CPC), AAPC Coding CertificationNote: Job description available upon request
