    GENERAL DESCRIPTION

    The Solicitor General Division represents the State of Texas before high-ranking state and federal courts, handling intricate civil and criminal litigation cases. As an Assistant Solicitor General, you will delve into various legal areas such as constitutional issues, federalism, and statutory interpretation. Your role involves extensive research, drafting legal documents, providing counsel to state agencies, and representing the State's interests in court proceedings. Additionally, you will supervise legal staff and ensure the highest standards of legal representation.

    ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

    Assistant Attorney General (AAG) V:

    • Represent the state in appellate courts, conduct legal research, and provide counsel to client agencies
    • Analyze complex legal issues, assist in training junior staff, and maintain up-to-date legal knowledge
    • Ensure compliance with work schedules, confidentiality policies, and ethical standards

    AAG VI—Building on the above functions, ALSO:

    • Assist in training junior staff members

    AAG VII—Building on the above functions, ALSO:

    • Mentor and train less experienced team members

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Assistant Attorney General (AAG) V:

    • Education: Completed legal education from an accredited institution
    • Experience: Four years as a practicing attorney specializing in appellate law, including judicial clerkship
    • Licensed to practice law in Texas and a member in good standing with the State Bar
    • Proficient in legal research, computer skills, multitasking, and communication
    • Demonstrated ability to make sound judgments, receive feedback positively, and work collaboratively
    • Available to work in-office, travel when necessary, and lift up to 30 lbs.
    • Willingness to work beyond regular hours and travel occasionally

    AAG VI—Meeting the above qualifications, ALSO:

    • Two additional years of experience in appellate law practice

    AAG VII—Meeting the above qualifications, ALSO:

    • Additional two years of experience in appellate law practice
