    Job Description:

    BASIC PURPOSE:

    Provides professional medical care in the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries including emergency situations, which enhances and supports the students' Assumption education.


    ACCOUNTABILITES:

    • Evaluates injuries that occur during athletic events, administers appropriate initial treatment, determines whether further medical treatment is required, and coordinates referrals to physicians or other medical professionals as necessary to ensure that injured student-athletes receive timely and appropriate medical care.
    • Maintains accurate and complete records of all treatments administrated and referrals made. Updates all treatments and rehabilitation plans consistently.
    • Coordinates, submits, and manages secondary insurance claim forms to student-athletes and secondary insurance companies for reimbursement of costs associated with athletically related activities.
    • Applies preventive and supportive strapping and taping and splinting as needed.
    • Provides game and practice coverage and necessary supplies.
    • Maintains medical clearance and completed medical forms of student-athletes.
    • Educates the student-athletes on the principles of basic health and injury prevention.
    • Collaborates with the Strength & Conditioning staff to monitor and prevent injuries.
    • Serves as liaison for Sports Medicine Office and assists with daily operational responsibilities as assigned.
    • Prioritizes attendance at University events such as: Student-Athlete Candle Light, Hall of Fame Dinner, Athletics Awards Night, Orientation, Graduation, etc.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Requirements:

    • Must be willing to contribute actively to the mission of the University.
    • Bachelor's required/Master's required, specializing in athletic training or a related field.
    • Certification through the NATA and possess a MA State Athletic Training license.
    • Possess current CPR and First Aid Certification/Automated External Defibrillator
    • Excellent computer skills
    • Excellent communication organizational, managerial and clinical skills

    Additional Information:

    SCOPE:

    • Variable working hours including evenings/weekends and traveling with intercollegiate athletics teams.
    • Operates and maintains a variety of training and rehabilitative equipment including electrical muscle stimulation machine with ultrasound, hydrocollator, whirlpool, hydrotherapy, and cryotherapy, etc.
    • Interacts daily with student/athletes other University administrators, parents and physicians, and other health professionals;
    • Oversees the daily operations of the Sports Medicine Department;
    • Supervises professional staff and student employees.
