    OUR DISTRICT:
    The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.
    OUR COMMUNITY:
    Located northeast of Seattle (seven miles east of Monroe) or about 20 minutes from the Woodinville area, Sultan is surrounded by a beautiful environmental setting. Our "backyard" is the scenic Skykomish River and Cascade Mountains. Sultan School District includes the community of Sultan, Startup, and Gold Bar. Students from Index attend Sultan High School.

    SCOPE OF POSITION:
    The Elementary School Principal is responsible for supporting programs at the school or District level. Duties include: developing and monitoring goals; participating in the screening and selection of staff; supervising and monitoring the performance of certified staff; establishing and monitoring standards of conduct for students; participating in the establishment and monitoring of budget; facilitating the development of school schedules; designing staff development programs and content; designing, implementing, and coordinating various programs and professional growth opportunities; facilitating meetings; writing curriculum; and, working with teams to support the goals and mission of the District.
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Sultan School District's Strategic Plan supports the Nine Characteristics of High Performing Schools. The Sultan School District uses Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to develop essential learning, learning targets, proficiency rating scales, common formative assessments, summative assessments, etc.
    • Provide leadership and management of assigned elementary school, treating all staff and students with respect and dignity.
    • Serve as the instructional leader and operational manager of an elementary school facility.
    • Work closely with the staff and stakeholders in identifying educational and instructional needs, and in developing long and short-range plans to improve the instructional process in collaboration with District Leadership.
    • Plan, design, conduct, and maintain follow-though strategies pertaining to curriculum development and the implementation of instructional programs and activities designed to meet the unique needs of the students and the educational community.
    • Plan, develop, organize, conduct, and maintain performance evaluation information systems designed to ensure that site goals and objectives are achieved, and all levels of staff adhere to district, state, and national educational standards and goals.
    • Plan, develop, organize, and administer support systems which provide optimal educational opportunities for elementary age students.
    • Review, evaluate, requisition, purchase, and allocate instructional supplies, materials, and equipment within parameters of the budget provided and aligned with district and campus objectives.
    • Confer and consult with the school and district personnel, parents, and students pertaining to educational behavior management problems and alternative problem solutions.
    • Direct, supervise, observe, assess, and evaluate site personnel performance.
    • Establish and maintain a positive team building and team management system.
    • Participate in budget planning activities and develop expenditure review and control procedures to ensure a cost beneficial and cost-effective operational mode.
    • Assume a leadership role in the functions and activities of site and district advisory committees and groups.
    • Assist the educational community in understanding the site and district goals and objectives, and the strategies utilized for achieving them.
    • Participate in the planning, development, implementation, interpretation, and administration of policies, rules, and regulations, and negotiated employee agreements.
    • Supervise, direct, and coordinate the assignment of instructional personnel and student classroom assignments to best meet the needs of students.
    • Establish administrative review procedures to ensure maximum utilization of monetary and human resources, and to ensure the implementation of result priorities.
    • Plan, develop, and provide management reports pertaining to the functions, activities, and general educational climate of the school facility.
    • Assist in the conduct of effective and efficient personnel management systems including recruitment, selection, retention, and separation of personnel.
    • Provide leadership in maintaining Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to include monitoring student data, aligning team practices to measurable student outcomes.
    • Collaborate and maintain effective communication and practice with colleagues.
    • May be responsible for managing, monitoring, and evaluating specially funded programs to ensure compliance with funding agency standards and guidelines.
    • Establish effective working relationships with all staff, students, and parents.
    OTHER DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Requires subject matter expertise in educational programs, curriculum, and instructional strategies.
    • Requires the ability to analyze and offer alternative problem solutions.
    • Has supervisory responsibility for planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the quality and quantity of work of professionals, technical, and clerical employees.
    • Frequently meets with teachers, school psychologists, and other educational personnel to influence, motivate, and monitor the result objectives for the operation of the school.
    POSTITION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge of principles, techniques, strategies, goals, and objectives of public education.
    • Knowledge of philosophical, economic, and legal aspects of public education.
    • Knowledge of procedures, methods, and strategies of organization, management, and supervision.
    • Knowledge of modern, innovative, and creative curriculum and instructional trends regarding the elementary aged child.
    • Knowledge of curriculum development, instructional program delivery strategies and program supervision, assessment, and evaluation.
    • Knowledge of result and performance evaluation techniques pertaining to program and personnel performance effectiveness.
    • Knowledge of human relations strategies, conflict resolution strategies, and team building principles and techniques.
    • Ability to direct, lead, and coordinate the multifaceted functions and activities of the elementary school facility.
    • Ability to demonstrate effective instructional, organizational, and administrative leadership.
    • Ability to analyze problems, determine alternative solutions, and make appropriate and effective decisions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Ability to plan, develop, and maintain effective organizational and community relations.
    EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION, FORMAL TRAINING:
    • Equivalent to the completion of a Masters' degree or higher in educational administration, instructional technology, or a closely related field.
    • Valid Washington State Administrative Certificate.
    • Five (5) years of successful teaching experience, or the completion of a comprehensive administrative internship training program.
    • Previous campus administration experience preferred.
