Business Director, Retail Bank Product Strategy

As a Business Director at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to major company challenges. You'll team with world-class professionals to develop and test strategies that ultimately impact the bottom line. As a Product Strategy lead within the Retail Bank, this role will act as the catalyst for innovation by leading high-intensity strategy sprints to solve our most ambiguous and ambitious product challenges. You will define robust growth strategies designed to rapidly scale our digital footprint, leveraging your analytical rigor to identify net-new opportunities in the banking ecosystem. By serving as the primary bridge between Product, Tech, and Design, you will cultivate deep cross-functional partnerships that translate visionary ideas into tangible, high-impact roadmaps that drive long-term customer value.

General Responsibilities:  

  • Product Strategy: Refine the multi-year north star visions and strategies for Retail Bank's most critical domains—including Core Modernization, AI strategy, and next-gen Payments—ensuring that foundational technical investments are seamlessly mapped to long-term enterprise growth and customer value.

  • Growth Strategy: Lead high-velocity strategy sprints to identify net-new growth vectors to rapidly scale the retail banking footprint.

  • Strategic leadership:  Develop business strategies that will drive growth, profitability, and competitive success for Capital One in the face of shifting consumer and regulatory demands 

  • Product Strategy: 

  • Business Valuations: Build rigorous economic models and valuation analysis to quantify product bets, ensuring every initiative drives clear ROI and customer lifetime value.

  • Cross-Functional Orchestration: Serve as the "connective tissue" between Product, Tech, Business and Design to translate complex business intent and technical constraints into clear and tangible strategic roadmaps.

  • Product Discovery & Innovation: Lead "0-to-1" strategy sprints and lean experiments to validate customer needs and strategic growth opportunities in the banking ecosystem.

  • Strategic; analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing; credit risk management 

  • People Leadership: Ability to build and leverage the capabilities of a high-performing team, as well as business partners across the enterprise. They should foster innovation, drive critical decisions, hold business partners accountable, and be able to consistently deliver results 

  • Executive communication: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Product Sense: You have an intuitive understanding of what makes a digital product "sticky" and a passion for simplifying complex financial lives.

  • Strategic Rigor: You can jump from a high-level 30,000-foot strategy to a 5-foot deep dive into data or tech constraints without losing momentum.

  • Influential Leadership: You don't just manage analysts; you inspire cross-functional teams who don't report to you. You are a master of "leading by influence."

  • Entrepreneurial Grit: You thrive in the "grey space." You are comfortable taking a vague problem statement and turning it into a strategic product vision.

Basic Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor's Degree in any quantitative field (Business, Math, Economics, Finance, Statistics, Science, Engineering)

  • At least 7 years of experience in analysis 

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Master's Degree 

  • 2+ years of experience in financial services 

  • 1+ year of experience in consulting 

  • 3+ years of experience in people management

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $230,400 - $263,000 for Business DirectorNew York, NY: $251,400 - $286,900 for Business DirectorPhiladelphia, PA: $209,500 - $239,100 for Business DirectorWilmington, DE: $209,500 - $239,100 for Business Director

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
