    Psychiatry Technician

    The Psychiatry Technician is a critical member of the multidisciplinary team responsible for providing direct patient care to patients in a psychiatric setting.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Create and maintain a healthy emotional environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
    • Work effectively with patients exhibiting various symptoms of emotional disturbance, using therapeutic techniques to promote stability and well-being.
    • Collaborate with staff to plan and implement daily activities that cater to patients' needs, ensuring their comfort, safety, and engagement.
    • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with patients, as directed by registered professional nurses.
    • Observe, record, and report relevant data in a narrative format, including patient activity, vital signs, and other pertinent information.
    • Assist with special procedures, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, and POCT, as ordered by medical staff.
    • Promote teamwork and participate in unit meetings, sharing insights and concerns to ensure optimal patient care.
    • Implement policies and procedures designed to maintain a comfortable, clean, and safe environment for patients.
    • Provide direct care to assigned patients, addressing their cleanliness, grooming, rest, activity, nourishment, and elimination needs.
    • Maintain a physical environment that promotes healing and relaxation, adhering to infection control practices and universal precautions.
    • Perform tasks such as obtaining necessary supplies, going on errands, and transporting patients to facilitate the smooth functioning of the unit.
    • Record vital signs, I&O, and other patient care activities in the electronic health record (EHR), per policy.
    • Consistently report observations and changes in patient condition to nursing staff, providing thorough handoffs when leaving or ending shifts.

    Qualifications:

    To be successful in this role, you will need:

    • A high school diploma or equivalent, with coursework in patient care preferred.
    • A minimum of one year's experience in behavioral health, with equivalent experience considered.
    • Math and computer skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • The ability to work effectively in a team environment, demonstrating respect and professionalism at all times.
    • A certificate of completion from an approved Patient Care Technician program, or both EKG and Phlebotomy certifications.
    • BLS certification, if not already held.

    Physical Requirements:

    This role requires:

    • Physically demanding work in a high-stress environment, with occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions.
    • Full range of motion, including lifting and carrying patients weighing up to 35 pounds, as well as manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
    • Corrected vision and hearing within normal range, with frequent sitting at a desk working on a computer.
