    Key job responsibilities

    This role is with Amazon Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging. We design custom packaging automation, conveyance and sortation solutions for large-scale deployment in Amazons fulfillment network. We build the Mechatronics and Robotics solutions that enable the efficiencies that customers have come to expect from Amazon's retail business. We focus on safety, speed of delivery, optimization and value. We tackle big goals and work hard to make automation history through invention, problem-solving, and highly-engaged teams.     As a Mechanical Engineer for Amazon Mechatronics and Sustainable Packaging team, you will work in an interdisciplinary team to develop, design, prototype, and test innovative automation solutions for Amazons fulfillment network. You will own key aspects of the architecture of complex and integrated electro-mechanical systems from concept to production and deployment. You will drive the technical details and pragmatic feasibility of mechatronic systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to deliver reliable and scalable systems.

    A day in the life

    As a Mechanical Engineer, you will:

    Lead the design architecture and integration of custom electro-mechanical systems, considering mechanical, electrical, and software components.

    Build, test and validate prototypes to prove path to viable, manufacturable and scalable solutions.

    Design electro-mechanical components, create detailed designs in CAD, generate drawings and release documentation for manufacturing through a PLM software

    Collaborate with program and engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration with existing systems.

    Use your experience in robotics to improve the overall system efficiencies and performance

    Work with manufacturing stakeholders, internal and external, to ready your designs for volume manufacturing

    Work with the Safety, Regulatory, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality teams as well as outside partners to ensure smooth product launches

    Travel domestically and internationally to troubleshoot your designs in early field applications.

    Basic Qualifications

    BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or similar field)

    5+ years of experience in the design of complex mechatronics or robotics systems

    Strong hands-on experience with the ability to craft proof-of-concept prototypes

    Experience in Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, Tolerancing and GD&T

    4+ years of Solidworks, or similar CAD software, experience with knowledge of best practices for part design, large assemblies, drawings and configuration management

    Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate with other teams in a fast-paced environment

    Ability to effectively communicate concepts and proposals through design reviews and presentations to management

    Customer-focused and able to prioritize work demands in a dynamic work environment with multiple projects, project owners and dedication to meeting deadlines

    Self-motivated and perpetually curious. Able to anticipate team needs, acquire new skills, improve processes, and mentor junior engineers

    Comfortable in midst of ambiguity.

    Able to work in a diverse team

    Preferred Qualifications

    MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or similar field)

    Demonstrated experience volume manufacturing such as diecasting or injection molded

    Good understanding of system engineering and requirements gathering

    Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and partnering closely with electrical and software/controls engineers to deliver fully integrated real-world solutions

    Experience documenting designs in accordance with ASME Y14.5

    Good understanding of the various stages of the Product Development Process

    Experience designing systems that meet stringent compliance and regulatory standards

    Experience working with overseas vendors to manage assembly build and quality

    Proficiency with Solidworks and advanced top-down design modeling methods

    Proficiency with Simulation and Finite Element Analysis tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, etc.)

    Proficiency with PDM and PLM experience (Team Center), including change control process

    Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
