    Position Objectives:

    NATURE OF WORK

    The Civilian Detention Office will set under the direct supervision of the Detention Sergeant(s) and Detention Corporal(s). Under general supervision, monitors inmate activities to provide safety and security for all Detention Center inmates and visitors, assists inmates with medical needs, and any other duties assigned. The Franklin County Sheriff Department offers competitive wages, and multiple benefits such as; medical/vision/and dental, paid vacation and sick leave, and LAGERS and CERF retirement funds. Training, uniforms and equipment provided. This is a Full-Time position with rotating shift work.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.
    • Processes inmate into the detention facility; updates and maintains inmate records and documents.
    • Recording of inmate personal property items.
    • Maintain care, custody, and control of the inmates while incarcerated.
    • Supervision of trustee inmates.
    • Distributes meals and medications to inmates; supervises meals.
    • Responds to emergency situations.
    • Distributes mail to the inmates, and conducts laundry change.
    • Conducts visitation with family, friends, and legal counsel.
    • Renders basic first aid when medical staff is unavailable.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Minimum Requirements:
    • Must be 18 years or age or older.
    • Must pass the Physical Test (run 1⁄4 mile, basic hurdles 1ft, 3ft, scale a 4ft wall, and drag a 150lb dummy 50ft, all within 5 minutes).
    • Must pass a urinalysis test.
    • Submit to CVSA
    • Some travel may be required.
    Desirable Training and Experience:

    EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Must have a valid Driver's License.

    SKILLS REQUIRED:
    • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
    • Preparing accurate reports.
    • Communicating clearly both verbally and in writing.
    • Be able to type 25 words per minute.
