- Provide consultation on medications and answer patient questions that have been covered by completed pharmacy coursework
- Exercise judgement in providing accurate and helpful information to patients during medication consultations and deferring to the supervising pharmacist when necessary
- Offer and solicit consultations for OTC medications
- Seek advice and assistance of the staff pharmacist when necessary
- Accurately, independently, and efficiently input and process prescriptions
- Count, label, and package prescriptions and supplies
- Submit prescriptions for third-party billing and trouble-shoot independently, using others as resources when necessary
- Actively monitor warehouse purchasing and general ordering; proactively manage inventory levels and NDC changes
- Lead pharmacy team to provide patient care services
- Manage and maintain pharmacy workflow standards; look for improvements and efficiencies and communicate with others
- Proactively communicate and share information with patients, prescribers, and third parties to prevent and resolve issues; anticipate problems and resolve before patients arrive
- Screen phone calls and problem solve to allow pharmacist time for patient care and interactions; actively participate in and initiate MTMs and therapy as appropriate
- Enthusiastically share knowledge of over-the-counter products, service initiatives, nutraceuticals, and front end product; introduce customers to new or alternative items
- Seek out feedback for continuous improvement and opportunities for growth
- Assist other departments and stores as needed
- Practice proper business ethics
- Comply with all local, state, federal, and company policies and regulations
- Abide by all Hometown Pharmacy Employee Standards of Conduct & Confidentiality
- Complete all training and continuing education provided by Hometown Pharmacies
- Follow all HIPAA standards and guidelines
- Successful completion of DPH-2 at accredited pharmacy school (required)
- 2-3 years of pharmacy experience or training as a technician (preferred)
- Successful completion of immunization course/certification (preferred)
- Ability to stand for duration of shift
- Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds

Summary: A pharmacy intern will actively assist in the management and productivity of the pharmacy and store. A pharmacy intern will support the pharmacist-in-charge in all activities permitted (per Wisconsin law Phar 7.01) by their intern status, including but not limited to: transferring prescriptions, accepting phoned in prescriptions, compounding medications, delivering immunizations, and consulting patients for both prescription and OTC medications.
