Canton and Potsdam are small, rural, college communities 11 miles apart with two colleges in each village.

Canton is the county seat of St. Lawrence County and is the home of the County Courthouse and numerous historical sites.The Village of Potsdam has a population of 10,000, rising to 18,000 when its two local colleges are in session.
