- Responsibilities of a 10-month Academic Appointment August through May.
- Teaching 6 contact hours of freshman-level courses for both majors and non-majors,
- Teaching 6 contact hours of upper-level courses in the candidate's area of expertise that fulfill requirements for student interests in Secondary Education.
- Upper division courses may include, but are not limited to level courses with the flexibility to teach Honor's level classes, evening classes, online, and/or hybrid classes (mixed online and in-class format).
- Maintaining office hours for student assistance and advising as mandated by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for HSSU.
- Attending the Faculty Institute Symposium each semester which provides essential training to navigate the HSSU academic and professional environment as well as mandated meetings at the departmental, college, and university levels.
- Engaging in service-related activities to the Department, College, University, and which may include serving on committees, serving as a Director of an Academic Program, serving on the faculty senate, attending graduation ceremonies, and supporting other activities (examples include student orientation, campus symposia in research, and community outreach).
- Ph.D. in Education or Secondary Education (i.e. K-12), 1-2 years of college-level teaching experience
- Ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to embrace new teaching technologies
- Proficiency in using web platforms for record keeping on a daily basis (grading, student attendance, and other reporting functions),
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- The candidate is encouraged to engage in mentored research activities in science education with undergraduate students.
- The candidate must apply skills in Microsoft Office as well as online platforms to develop innovative and collaborative teaching pedagogies and/or technologies for implementation in either the live classroom or virtual classroom environment.
- The candidate will assist when necessary in the development of new courses within the Education discipline on the level).
- The candidate will assist in developing certification programs to fulfill student needs for gainful employment or success in professional studies.
- The candidate will be encouraged to gain professional development in grant writing in order to apply for extramural research or other academic-based funding from government agencies; grant budgets will request funds for negotiated teaching release not to exceed two 6.0 credit courses per semester.
- Assisting in teaching evaluations of assigned Adjunct Faculty in a related field of expertise.
- Mentoring and supporting assigned Adjunct Faculty as a team-lead in a related field of expertise by providing updated syllabi, Power Point lectures, laboratory exercises, and constructive teaching guidance each academic semester.
- Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body
- Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a signification degree
- Work is routinely performed in a typical interior/office environment
- Very limited or no exposure to physical risk

The position of Assistant Professor requires excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring students in the Department of Education. In addition, the candidate will be engaged in service activities to the Department and College of Arts and Sciences to support the educational mission of the university. Research endeavors with undergraduates is highly encouraged.
