    Director of Clinical Simulation

    Position Function

    This individual will direct and support all the simulation and lab activities in the Simulation Center

    Organizational Structure

    The individual reports to the Dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences

    Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


    The Director of Simulation is responsible for planning, designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating simulation based learned activities for the nursing program.


    This includes, but is not limited to:

    • Directing and coordinating the overall operations of the simulation center and nursing skills labs.
    • Facilitating the learning process that creates a safe and supportive student learning environment.
    • Overseeing the regular maintenance and repair of all simulation equipment including computers, audio-visual equipment, and simulators.
    • Communicating effectively with equipment manufacturers as needed.
    • Providing technical support for all equipment within the simulation center and skills labs.
    • Collaborating with the nursing faculty to develop simulation scenarios to promote student learning, critical thinking, clinical reasoning, decision-making, and skill development and to set up labs and simulation for active student learning activities.
    • Overseeing the set up and take down of simulation laboratory equipment allowing for rapid turnover of simulation set up as needed.
    • Providing individual oversight for students for practice and remediation of technical skills and competencies, as requested by faculty and students.
    • Assisting with faculty development, support and training related to the use of simulation.
    • Evaluating and developing quality improvement strategies including data collection and reporting on lab and simulation learning outcomes.
    • Collaborating with faulty/staff in reporting of program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, educational concerns, and achievement of student success.
    • Preparing for Simulation in Healthcare Accreditation
    • Overseeing the maintenance of the simulation center to meet CCNE accreditation standards and site visits.
    • Assisting faculty in the development of simulation competencies and evaluations tools to achieve student learning outcomes.
    • Building external partnerships and seeking inter-professional opportunities to enhance simulation education and learning.
    • Recommending and researching the need to service and/or purchase additional equipment and supplies for the simulation center and nursing skills labs.
    • Creating and maintaining a weekly schedule which ensures adequate coverage for all simulation and lab activities throughout the academic year.
    • Preparing for the Society for Simulation in Healthcare accreditation.
    • Actively participating in Simulation Committee meetings as scheduled.
    The Director of Simulation accomplishes this through the following:


    Qualifications:

    • Earned master's degree in a related field.
    • Clinical Knowledge and experience working in a healthcare related field or allied health professional.
    • Certification in Simulation Education.
    Required Technical Skills


    • Familiarity with PC and MAC platforms and the ability to learn additional software programs, including audiovisual and computerized simulation equipment.
    • Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
    • Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Suites.
    • Advanced proficiency with Google suite, including Google Calendar and Drive.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities


    • 1-3 years in managing a healthcare educational simulation center.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including editing and proofreading.
    • Exceptional planning and organizational skills.
    • Ability to take initiative and ownership of projects.
    • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to work well with culturally diverse populations within an organization.
    • Proven ability to perform duties with an elevated level of professionalism, flexibility, discretion, judgment, diplomacy, and tact.
    • Ability to multitask, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.
    • Prior experience in higher education administration a plus, but not required.

    In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary range for this position is $90,000 - $100,000. St.

    John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.

    This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
