    Civil Engineer co-op
    Summer 2024

    We are currently hiring co-ops for the following divisions: Construction, Bridge & Highway Design, Bridge Inspection, Sanitary Design and Planning & Programming.


    Requirements:
    High School graduate & currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering program.

    Construction:
    On site (in the field) construction engineering responsibilities. Knowledge of current methods and techniques of public works construction. Performs technical assignments in connection with public works construction.

    Work entails the application of sub-professional engineering skill and knowledge and includes drawings and reports, the making and checking of engineering computations, inspecting materials and construction, and other related assignments.

    Under supervision of Construction Engineer or Construction Supervisor inspect various phases of construction to ensure that the project complies with contractual plans and specifications.

    Documents observations of all technical work in bridge and road construction; provides daily reports of work done on a project and provides necessary documentation as directed by the Construction Engineer /Supervisor.

    Calculates quantities and compiles engineering data and statistics. Skilled in the use of engineering instruments and equipment in making engineering drawings.

    Bridge & Highway Design, Sanitary Design, and Planning & Programming: Preferred experience with AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel and Word; structural engineering and hydraulic analysis software.

    Some Knowledge in transportation planning, roadway design, bridge design, sanitary design, and pavement management Working with the Sanitary, Road & Bridge Division of Public Works, in the Highway Design, Bridge Design, Sanitary Design, & Planning areas.

    Performs technical assignments in connection with transportation planning, roadway design, bridge design, sanitary design, and pavement management; Work entails application of college-level mathematical knowledge, technical skills, and communication capabilities toward production of detailed design plans and supporting documents.

    Under supervision of Section Chief or Staff Engineer performs functions related to the production and review of design computations, detailed drawings, quantity calculations, construction cost estimates, engineering reports and supporting documents.

    Supports review of shop drawings for conformance to governing design standards, specifications and dimensional tolerances. May be tasked with making routine telephone and email inquiries regarding utility contacts and requests for vendor product information. Under supervision of Public Works staff, travels to field to observe projects under construction.
