This is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon the availability of grant funds.

This position is limited to a maximum of 1,000 work hours per calendar year.

Performs administrative and coordination duties related to the development, implementation, and support of wellness initiatives within the Police Department. Responsible for promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being of sworn and civilian personnel. Work is performed under the general direction of a designated command staff member or agency administrator.

Essential Functions

Develops, coordinates, and supports occupational wellness programs designed to enhance employee health, resilience, and readiness. Collaborates with leadership, peer support teams, and professional service providers to strengthen agency-wide wellness culture.

Develops, plans, and administers agency wellness programs related to mental health, fitness, stress management, and work-life balance initiatives.


Serves as a liaison and point of contact for wellness-related resources, including Employee Assistance Programs (EAP), peer support teams, and external service providers.

Coordinates the planning, delivery, and promotion of wellness training, workshops, and educational materials.


Assists in the coordination of critical incident wellness support in collaboration with command staff, peer teams, and mental health professionals.

Builds and maintains relationships with community partners, clinicians, and wellness organizations that support law enforcement personnel.

Promotes wellness initiatives through internal communication channels, events, and outreach efforts.

Monitors participation, program outcomes, and wellness trends while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with agency policies.

Advises supervisors and command staff on wellness-related best practices and employee support strategies.

Ensures compliance of all wellness initiatives with agency policies, legal requirements, and professional standards.

Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience


Experience in psychology, social work, health promotion, public health, criminal justice, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience within a law enforcement, public safety, or similar high-stress occupational environment preferred. Possession of a valid driver's license recognized by the State of North Carolina. Background in mental health, wellness coordination, or law enforcement support preferred

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Thorough knowledge of wellness program development, mental health awareness, organizational health promotion, and stress management principles. Familiarity with stressors unique to law enforcement and public safety environments.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.

Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders, build trust and rapport with sworn and civilian personnel, and demonstrate cultural competence in a law enforcement setting.

Knowledge of peer support and critical incident stress management principles preferred. Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.

Physical Demands

This work is sedentary and requires little to no exertion of force; worker is frequently sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires repetitive motions; work has no special vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office with typewriters and/or computer printers, light traffic).

Temporary Seasonal employees work 1000 or less each year.
