Description
TheChemical Process Engineer
develops the systems, tools, processes, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) used to manufacture chemicals and chemical-based products for consumer and industrial use.
They will utilize process simulation and engineering methodologies with a structured problem-solving approach to identify root causes and devise solutions for processing problems.
The Engineer will monitor production operations for quality and performance to identify improvements to current process technology.Job Description, Roles and Responsibilities:
Collaborates with manufacturing and R&D teams to design, test, develop and optimize scalable production processes and deploy equipment and instruments used in operations.
Lead project teams to meet the project's business objectives including cost, schedule and line performance
Maintain a vision of the project objectives and ensure team actions are consistent
Coordinate project activities between plant personnel, contractors, equipment suppliers, and corporate entities including development of project schedules, plant disruptions, and line performance.
Develop, manage and maintain project action item list including start-up work list to achieve project performance.Proactively develop practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduce operational costs to enhance plant performance
Aide in commercialization of manufacturing processes for new products
Develop Production and Product Integrity improvement projects as gaps are identified
Help to create a culture of Lean Manufacturing and Accountability amongst the management and plant personnel teams
Aide in specification, purchase, installation and commissioning of process equipment and systems.
Design and conduct pilot and production scale process and tests, documenting and evaluating data using written reports
Establish and train operators on equipment operating parameters and provide process flow diagrams
Develop, prioritize, and execute annual capital plan
Provide technical leadership to support safety, quality, operations, and maintenance activities
Design and optimize building utility systems
Create, update, and maintain controlled document library for drawings, PIDs, and electrical schematics
Ensure compliance with air emissions, wastewater effluent, and other regulatory requirements through on-site mitigation systems
Conducts research and development projects involving the study of chemical reactions and material properties to innovate and develop new products or optimize existing products.
Research, improve and develop plans to keep processes up to modern standards of efficiency and production costBe knowledgeable about and implement food safe (GMP) engineering design practices as consistent with industry standards of design
Qualifications Required:
BS in Food Science, Food Engineering or similar engineering discipline required. PE License preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably food manufacturing
Food Science laboratory work or process equipment engineering with a food company, preferably both
HACCP, Lean Mfg., Six Sigma, experience preferred
Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD, PFW, Microsoft AX, D365, and Allen Bradley programming software is preferred
Excellent documentation skills; adept at working with Microsoft Office & assorted databases.
Ability to work a flexible schedule including off-shifts and weekends
