- Sorts, assembles, and packs surgical instruments, trays, and supplies following established protocol, preference card, or manufacturer instructions.
- Identifies and selects the instruments and equipment necessary for surgical procedures.
- Decontaminates and cleans reusable equipment and/or supplies, maintains storage rooms.
- Monitors equipment and/or supplies for repair or replacement needs and notifies appropriate department personnel as needed.
- Assists the surgeon during the operative procedure.
- Anticipates surgeon's needs to expedite the procedure thereby minimizing the patient's exposure to trauma.
- Maintains strict aseptic technique, properly maintains sterile instruments and adheres to proper sterilization techniques.
- Monitors sterile field for possible breaks in sterile technique. Maintains fiscal prudence when managing their sterile fields.
- Counts sponges, needles, and instruments after and after procedure.
- Uses the autoclave and Steris units
- Assists with room turnover, cleaning, and restocking.
- Supports staffing needs of department by working flexible hours, on call, and overtime as needed.
- Ability to identify instruments and equipment necessary for surgical procedures
- Knowledge of supplies, instruments, and equipment and their uses
- Ability to maintain strict aseptic environment
- Ability to maintain on call rotation
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- High school diploma (or Equivalent Certificate from an accredited program) or higher degree and one (1) or more years of healthcare experience
- OR, 45 Days: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program within 45 days of start date.
- Cheyenne Regional AHA RQI within 14 calendar days of start date
- Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician experience
- Surgical Technician certification
